Abstract This study examined the effect of the ovary on LH pulsatility and on the secretory performance of gonadotrophes during the phase of recovery after treatment with buserelin, a GnRH analogue. We included 12 patients, who received buserelin (1.2 mg/day, intranasally for 3 months) as a reductive therapy for uterine leiomyomatosis prior to hysterectomy. Six patients were oophorectomized and the other 6 patients had their ovaries preserved. LH was measured in samples taken basally up to 36 days after suppression of buserelin. The response of the isolated uterus to histamine and histamine agonists was investigated in progesterone- and oestrogen-treated rats. The uterine inhibitory responses to histamine and 4-methylhistamine (a histamine H2 receptor agonist) were similar in KCl-contracted uteri from progesterone- and oestrogen-treated rats. The histamine H1 receptor agonist, 2-pyridyl-ethylamine, produced a relaxant response only in progesterone dominant uterus. This was inhibited by the histamine H1 receptor antagonist. For purification of the human uterine progesterone receptor, an affinity adsorbent was synthesized in which the specific ligand (16 alpha-ethyl-3-oxo-19nor-androst-4-ene 17 beta-carboxylic acid) was bound to derivatized celulose using a disulfide-group-containing spacer. The purified receptor protein, isolated by reductive cleavage of the disulfide bond, bound the synthetic gestagen R5020 with high affinity (Kd 12.2 nmol/l). The affinity gel was highly efficient. A morphometric study of the uterus area (UA) of Fasciola hepatica adults was carried out with the aid of a computer linked to a stereomicroscopic 3CCD colour video camera using image analysis software. Abstract Cytogenetic analyses of four malignant mixed mesodermal tumors (MMMT) of the uterus are reported, of which one was of the homologous type and three of the heterologous type. Karyotypic analyses were obtained in two cases from original tumors and in two cases from tumors xenotransplanted into nude mice. The karyotype of the homologous MMMT was normal in three different passages of a nude mice xenograft line established from the primary tumor. The present study investigated the combination of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) insertion and palliative radiotherapy (RT) as a potential approach for treating frail, elderly endometrial cancer (EC) patients considered unfit for curative oncological treatments. The inclusion criteria were an age of ≥65 years, pathological confirmation of a uterine neoplasm, a Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) value of ≥4 and the presence of vaginal bleeding.
