We consider on the space l∞ polynomials that are invariant regarding permutations of the sequence variable or regarding finite permutations. Accordingly, they are trivial or factor through c0. The analogous study, with analogous results, is carried out on L∞[0,+∞), replacing the permutations of N by measurable bijections of [0,+∞) that preserve the Lebesgue measure.

Abstract This paper applies the concepts introduced in the article: Filament sets and homogeneous continua [J.R. Prajs, K. Whittington, Filament sets and homogeneous continua, Topology Appl. 154 (8) (2007) 1581–1591, doi:10.1016/j.topol.2006.12.005 ] to decompositions of homogeneous continua. Several new or strengthened results on aposyndesis are given. Newly defined decompositions are discussed. A proposed classification scheme for homogeneous continua is shown to be mostly invariant under Jones' aposyndetic decomposition.

While many morphological, physiological, and ecological characteristics of organisms scale with body size, some do not change under size transformation. They are called invariant. A recent study recommended five criteria for identifying invariant traits. These are based on that a trait exhibits a unimodal central tendency and varies over a limited range with body mass (type I), or that it does not vary systematically with body mass (type II). Genetic variation is the fuel of evolution, with standing genetic variation especially important for short-term evolution and local adaptation. To date, studies of spatiotemporal patterns of genetic variation in natural populations have been challenging, as comprehensive sampling is logistically difficult, and sequencing of entire populations costly. Adaptive-gain extended Kalman filter: Extension to the continuous-discrete case

In the present article we propose a nonlinear observer that merges the behaviors 1) of an extended Kalman filter, mainly designed to smooth off noise , and 2) of high-gain observers devoted to handle large perturbations in the state estimation. We specifically aim at continuous-discrete systems. The strategy consists in letting the high-gain self adapt according to the innovation. We define innovation computed over a time window and justify its usage via an important lemma. We prove the general convergence of the resulting observer.

Using an Adaptive High-Gain Extended Kalman Filter With a Car Efficiency Model

The authors apply the Adaptive High-Gain Extended Kalman Filter (AEKF) to the problem of estimating engine efficiency with data gathered from normal driving. The AEKF is an extension of the traditional Kalman Filter that allows the filter to be reactive to perturbations without sacrificing noise filtering. An observability normal form of the engine efficiency model is developed for the AEKF. The continuous-discrete AEKF is presented along with strategies for dealing with asynchronous data.
