Fixed point iterative schemes for variational inequality problems

2018

In a wide class of evolutionary processes, the problem of computing the solutions of an initial value problem is encountered. Here, we consider projected dynamical systems in the sense of \cite{Daniele} and references therein. Precisely, a projected dynamical system is an operator which solves the initial value problem: \begin{equation}\label{PDS}\frac{dx(t)}{dt}= \Pi_{\mathbb{K}}\left(x(t),-F(x(t))\right), \quad x(0)=x_0 \in \mathbb{K}, \, t \in [0,+\infty[,\tag{P}\end{equation} where $\mathbb{K}$ is a convex polyhedral set in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $F: \mathbb{K} \to \mathbb{R}^n$ and $\Pi_{\mathbb{K}}: \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{K} \to \mathbb{R}^n$ is given as follows $\Pi_{\mathbb{K}}(x,-F(x))…

On strongly measurable Kurzweil-Henstock type integrable functions

2009

We consider the integrability, with respect to the scalar Kurzweil-Henstock integral, the Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integral and the variational Henstock integral, of strongly measurable functions de ned as f = P1 n=1 xn [n;n+1),where (xn) belongs to a Banach space. Examples which indicate the difference between the scalar Henstock-Kurzweil integral and the Henstock- Kurzweil-Pettis integral and between the variational Henstock integral and the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integral are given.

European traditional tomatoes galore: a result of farmers' selection of a few diversity-rich loci

2022

A comprehensive collection of 1254 tomato accessions, corresponding to European traditional and modern varieties, early domesticated varieties, and wild relatives, was analyzed by genotyping by sequencing. A continuous genetic gradient between the traditional and modern varieties was observed. European traditional tomatoes displayed very low genetic diversity, with only 298 polymorphic loci (95% threshold) out of 64 943 total variants. European traditional tomatoes could be classified into several genetic groups. Two main clusters consisting of Spanish and Italian accessions showed higher genetic diversity than the remaining varieties, suggesting that these regions might be independent seco…

Retirement Age Across Countries: The Role of Occupations

2011

Cross-country variation in effective retirement age is usually attributed to institutional differences that affect individuals’ incentives to retire. This paper suggests a different approach to explain this variation. Since working individuals in different occupations naturally retire at different ages, the composition of occupations within an economy matters for its average effective retirement age. Using U.S. Census data we infer the average retirement age by occupation, which we then use to predict the retirement age of 38 countries, using the occupational distribution of these countries. Our findings suggest that the differences in occupational composition explain up to 38% of the obser…

Everywhere differentiability of viscosity solutions to a class of Aronsson's equations

2017

For any open set $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n$ and $n\ge 2$, we establish everywhere differentiability of viscosity solutions to the Aronsson equation $$ =0 \quad \rm in\ \ \Omega, $$ where $H$ is given by $$H(x,\,p)==\sum_{i,\,j=1}^na^{ij}(x)p_i p_j,\ x\in\Omega, \ p\in\mathbb R^n, $$ and $A=(a^{ij}(x))\in C^{1,1}(\bar\Omega,\mathbb R^{n\times n})$ is uniformly elliptic. This extends an earlier theorem by Evans and Smart \cite{es11a} on infinity harmonic functions.

Variant Arterial Supply of the Descending Colon by the Coeliac Trunk: A Case Report

2021

Background and Objectives: Knowledge of arterial variations of the intestines is of great importance in visceral surgery and interventional radiology. Materials and Methods: An unusual variation in the blood supply of the descending colon was observed in a Caucasian female body donor. Results: In this case, the left colic artery that regularly derives from the inferior mesenteric artery supplying the descending colon was instead a branch of the common hepatic artery. Conclusions: Here, we describe the very rare case of an aberrant left colic artery arising from the common hepatic artery in a dissection study.

Using an extended version of the theory of planned behaviour to predict smoking cessation in two age groups

2011

The aim of this study was twofold: (i) to test the utility of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) in predicting intentions to quit smoking and subsequent behaviour in two age groups, and among women and men, and (ii) to examine whether descriptive norms, moral norms and past behaviour predict intentions and behaviour beyond the impact of the TPB components. Analyses were based on data from a prospective sample of 447 daily smokers (adolescents 16–19 years, n = 174, M = 17.5, adults 35–55 years, n  =  311, M  =  44 years). The TPB accounted for 31.8% and 38% of the variance in intentions in the adolescent and adult groups, respectively. The extension variables added 12.6% and 12.1% to the …

An extended version of the theory of planned behavour: Prediction of intentions to quit smoking using past behaviour as moderator

2010

It was hypothesised that: (i) intentions to quit smoking were predictable from group identity, self-identity, moral norms and past quit attempts, beyond the components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), and (ii) that past experiences with the behaviour (quit attempts) would increase the predictive utility of the extended TPB model on intentions. The data was collected among 357 daily smoking students (M = 24 years). The TPB components accounted for 12.3% of the variance in quitting intentions, while the extension variables added 16.5% to the explained variance in intentions beyond the impact of the TPB. Past behaviour had the strongest impact on intentions (α = 0.30), followed by mor…

The differential diagnoses of uterine leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas using DNA and RNA sequencing.

2019

BACKGROUND: Although uterine leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas are considered biologically unrelated tumors, they share morphologic and histologic characteristics that complicate their differential diagnosis. The long-term therapeutic option for leiomyoma is laparoscopic myomectomy with morcellation, particularly for patients who wish to preserve their fertility. However, because of the potential dissemination of undiagnosed or hidden leiomyosarcoma from morcellation, there is a need to develop a preoperative assessment of malignancy risk. OBJECTIVE: Through an integrated comparative genomic and transcriptomic analysis, we aim to identify differential genetic targets in leiomyomas vs leiomyosa…

Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil ofAnethum graveolensAerial Parts

2014

Abstract:The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation method from the aerial parts of Anethum graveolens were analysed by GC-MS. Twelve compounds constituting 96.8 % of the oil were identified. The main compounds were α-phellandrene (31.8 %), apiole (15.3 %), dill ether (13.2 %), limonene (11.8 %), geraniol (10.6 %) and pcymene (5.3 %). The chemical composition of the oil was found to be similar as reported from India and abroad, however there was a considerable quantitative variation among the major compounds identified.
