The theoretical foundations of high-resolution TVD schemes for homogeneous scalar conservation laws and linear systems of conservation laws have been firmly established through the work of Harten [5], Sweby [11], and Roe [9]. These TVD schemes seek to prevent an increase in the total variation of the numerical solution, and are successfully implemented in the form of flux-limiters or slope limiters for scalar conservation laws and systems. Parasitism is considered a major selective force in natural host populations. Infections can decrease host condition and vigour, and potentially influence, for example, host population dynamics and behavior such as mate choice. We studied parasite infections of two common marine fish species, the sand goby (Pomatoschistus minutus) and the common goby (Pomatoschistus microps), in the brackish water Northern Baltic Sea. We were particularly interested in the occurrence of parasite taxa located in central sensory organs, such as eyes, potentially affecting fish behavior and mate choice. Recent advances in molecular biology methods have significantly increased the ability to detect genetic variation at the genomic level for forensic purposes. However, the quality requirements for blood, fresh or frozen tissue as a source of DNA are a practical limitation for typing the victim in order to conduct investigations on unsolved cases. Since paraffin embedded specimens are easily obtainable the ability to study this material would be of great value in current forensic practice.

The incidence and RNA electrophoretypes of rotaviral isolates obtained from infants and young children with acute gastroenteritis were studied from October, 1985 through April, 1986. Analysis of the viral RNA was carried out by Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by silver staining. Fourteen electrophoretypes were identified. A single dominant electrophoretype was found during the first months of the rotavirus seasonal outbreak. Allozyme electrophoresis is a well established technique for revealing genetic variation that has given useful results in a wide range of organisms. However, in rotifers it has been applied scarcely and only in a few species. In this paper the methods of acetate allozyme electrophoresis are introduced, including laboratory setup, equipment and staining recipes that have been successfully applied to brachionid rotifers. In addition, the literature published on allozyme electrophoresis in rotifers is reviewed and the main results and future prospects of the technique are discussed. Using two different typing techniques (i.e. polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing (PAGIF) with Western blot and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of precipitated C8 under nonreducing conditions with Western blot), the following observations were made during the reference typing for C81 (C8A). The Japanese variant A1J is probably identical with A1Cauc, whereas B1J is definitely different from B1Cauc and could therefore provisionally be named HB3'. ABSTRACTAlthough the recognition of the adoptive rights of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) couples is a socially salient topic, cross-national variation regarding this issue has been largely underexplored in social science research. With the aid of configurational analysis, this article fills this gap and shows the conditions that explain the recognition of the adoptive rights of homosexual couples in the countries of the EU-27. This is an important species from an ecological, economic and conservation perspective, however critical information on its population genetic structure is lacking.
