Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso
2018
International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. Even if the effect is not strong, this result support…
The Equationally-Defined Commutator in Quasivarieties Generated by Two-Element Algebras
2018
The notion of the equationally-defined commutator was introduced and thoroughly investigated in (Czelakowski, 2015). In this work the properties of the equationally-defined commutator in quasivarieties generated by two-element algebras are examined. It is proved: If a quasivariety Q is generated by a finite set of two-element algebras, then the equationally-defined commutator of Q is additive (Theorem 3.1) Moreover it satisfies the associativity law (Theorem 3.6). The second result is strengthened if the quasivariety is generated by a single two-element algebra 2: If Q = SP(2), then the equationally-defined commutator of Q universally validates one of the following laws: [x,y] = x^y or [x,y…
Jet fragmentation transverse momentum distributions in pp and p-Pb collisions at √s, √sNN = 5.02 TeV
2021
Jet fragmentation transverse momentum (jT) distributions are measured in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-kT algorithm with resolution parameter R = 0.4 in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 0.25. The jT values are calculated for charged particles inside a fixed cone with a radius R = 0.4 around the reconstructed jet axis. The measured jT distributions are compared with a variety of parton-shower models. Herwig and Pythia 8 based models describe the data well for the higher jT region, while they underestimate the low…
La colaboración científica: principales líneas de investigación y retos de futuro
2014
The construction of knowledge is a collaborative process that has seen a dramatic growth over recent decades, since almost all research activities now involve increasing numbers of researchers, institutions, disciplines and countries. The present study provides a bibliographic review of the literature on research collaboration and identifies pioneering work on the topic, the types of studies undertaken and the variables analyzed. Several approaches are discussed: the “classical” approach, based on bibliometric indicators, which has taken on a new dimension with Social Network Analysis; and quantitative and qualitative approaches, which attempt to investigate the motivations and dynamics of …
Casual, Colloquial, Commonsensical: A News Values Stylistic Analysis of a Populist Newsfeed
2021
This study explores a mediated variety of right-wing populist discourse in the digital context, given the populists’ inclination to bypass legacy media to connect directly to the citizens to garner political support. It analyzes a sample of the Tea Party’s newsfeed headlines posted in the spring of 2019. A corpus of 308 headlines collected according to a “constructed week” formula has been coded first according to selected news values parameters (Bednarek and Caple 2017), and then with respect to stylistic devices operationalized in terms of “casual,” “colloquial” and “commonsensical” expressions. Methodologically, the study aims to combine the perspectives of newsworthiness and stylistics …
An International Survey of Quality and Safety Programs in Radiology
2021
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the status of radiology quality improvement programs in a variety of selected nations worldwide. Methods: A survey was developed by select members of the International Economics Committee of the American College of Radiology on quality programs and was distributed to committee members. Members responded on behalf of their country. The 51-question survey asked about 12 different quality initiatives which were grouped into 4 themes: departments, users, equipment, and outcomes. Respondents reported whether a designated type of quality initiative was used in their country and answered subsequent questions further characterizing it. Results: The re…
The effectiveness of personalized design to feed elderly people
2015
Beyond the physiological age, the elderly population is characterized by a high heterogeneity in terms of physical, psychological and sociological status (Maître et al, 2015). Regarding eating behavior, several studies have highlighted a large inter-individual variability in chemosensory abilities (i.e. the ability to perceive an odor or a taste; Sulmont-Rossé et al, 2015) and oral-heath status (i.e. dental status, salivary flow; ALIMASSENS project), as well as inter-individual variability in food preference and food intake (AUPALESENS project). However, the food offer dedicated to the elderly population, and in particular to elderly people who needs help to obtain and/or prepare food for t…
Decomposing issue patterns in crisis communication: the case of the lost airliner
2018
This research explores the relation between a crisis and public discussion on related issues. In organisational crisis communication, a singleissue strategy is often proposed. Such a strategy, however, may not be adequate in more complex crises where the crisis lifecycle is likely to encompass shorter lifecycles of issues that generate media attention. Decomposing the online crisis debate into a pattern of issues supports understanding of public perceptions, and hence of crisis response and communication. This is investigated through an analysis of Facebook posts prompted by the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in 2014. The analysis shows that during the life of the crisis a variety o…
Diagnozowanie sprawności mówienia w perspektywie (nie tylko) egzaminu maturalnego
2015
The article discusses the difficulties of diagnosing speaking skills in the situation of matriculation examination, resulting from the specific nature of spoken language varieties and texts implementation in these variants. Factors that should be taken into account when formulating criteria for assessing speech and conversation exams are: complex and holistic structure of spoken speech, transience of audible text, the spontaneity of live speech, the power of nonverbal codes, a significant stigma of a dialog, and the influence of situational context on the course of communicative interaction. The analysis of speaking skills assessment tools prepared for the oral examination in the year 2015…
Odmiana medialna języka a ustne wypowiedzi uczniów
2022
This article seeks to answer the question whether features of media language can be discerned in the utterances of the younger generation and, if so, which ones. The oral presentations performed during the secondary school final examinations (obtained from the recordings) were studied. They have never been analysed in this respect before. The presentations have, on the one hand, an official character and, on the other, are spontaneous as they are produced on an ad hoc and continuous basis, with no possibility of predicting their final shape. First, the article reviews the characterisation of media language by researchers working on the subject in order to establish a group of the most disti…
