User evaluation of a therapist-guided internet-delivered treatment program for anxiety disorders: A qualitative study

2021

Therapist-guided internet-based cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) has been proposed as a potential means to increase individuals' access to quality mental health care and effective treatment. Guided ICBT aims to increase a patient's knowledge and competence to better cope with their disorder. Despite the growing evidence supporting the effects of guided ICBT, there is remarkably little research on the different factors that are important for patients to achieve effects from using such digital treatment interventions. Thus, the aim of this study was to conduct a user evaluation of a therapist-guided ICBT program using the updated DeLone and McLean (D&M) model for measuring information syste…

Nursing students’ professional identity development: An integrative review

2021

The aim of this integrative review was to identify and synthesize current evidence of factors that influence the professional identity development of nursing students in nursing educational programs. Cinahl (EBSCO), Medline, ERIC, Embase, and PsycINFO were searched. Three different appraisal tools and the PRISMA checklist were used. The data from both quantitative and qualitative studies (19 primary studies) were analyzed by applying qualitative content analysis. The analysis revealed two main themes: a caring practice–academic partnership and support in the learning environment. The following seven sub-categories were identified: clinical supervisors, ethical competence, preparation, self…

Development and evaluation of image-series for portion size estimation in dietary assessment among adults

2021

AbstractPortion size images are advantageous in dietary assessment. The aim of the present study was to develop and validate new culturally specific image-series for portion size estimation to be used in a new Norwegian version of a British web-based dietary assessment tool (myfood24). Twenty-three image-series of different foods, each containing seven portion size images, were created and validated in a group of adults (n41, 58 % female) aged 19–44 (median 23), out of which 63 % had higher (tertiary) education. The participants compared 46 portions of pre-weighed foods to the portion size images (1886 comparisons in total). Portion size estimations were either classified as correct, adjace…

Enhancement of cranial nerves in Lyme neuroborreliosis: incidence and correlation with clinical symptoms and prognosis

2022

Abstract Purpose Symptoms of cranial neuritis are a common presentation of Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB). Imaging studies are scarce and report contradictory low prevalence of enhancement compared to clinical studies of cranial neuropathy. We hypothesized that MRI enhancement of cranial nerves in LNB is underreported, and aimed to assess the prevalence and clinical impact of cranial nerve enhancement in early LNB. Methods In this prospective, longitudinal cohort study, 69 patients with acute LNB were examined with MRI of the brain. Enhancement of cranial nerves III–XII was rated. MRI enhancement was correlated to clinical findings of neuropathy in the acute phase and after 6 months. Results T…

Antibiotic therapy of neuroborreliosis:A survey among infectious disease specialists and neurologists in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark

2022

INTRODUCTION: Neuroborreliosis (NB) is a prevalent tick-borne neuroinfection in Europe. To delineate current practice in antimicrobial management of adults with NB and to prioritize future trials needed to optimize treatment recommendations, a questionnaire-based survey was performed.METHODS: A self-administered Internet-based survey of NB treatment practices among specialists in infectious diseases and neurology based in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark was carried out between October 2021 and February 2022. The participants were also asked to prioritize four pre-defined research questions for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on therapy for NB.RESULTS: In total, 290 physicians (45% female) f…

Global health security and islands as seen through COVID-19 and vaccination

2022

Since the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic in March 2020, significant research and attention has focused on countries’ abilities and interests in enacting response measures to the spread of the coronavirus including lockdowns, travel restrictions, and vaccination programmes to contain infections, hospitalisations, and deaths. As the pandemic has continued, much discussion has also centred on the ability of islands to control borders, enact public health measures, and keep the virus out or controlled, owing in part to presumed islandness characteristics of isolation and remoteness. Drawing from ongoing empirical examples of island experiences in the context of COVID-19, this article exa…

Walking a tightrope - as a next-of-kin to an adolescent or young adult with cancer facing eating difficulties

2022

Purpose: Eating difficulties cause reduced food intake and poor quality of life among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer. Therefore, next-of-kin eating support is crucial. The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of being close to AYAs with cancer in the context of eating when they are at home between high-emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC) sessions. Method: In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 next-of-kin to AYAs (15–29 years old) with oncological or haematological diseases, treated with HEC. Van Manen’s hermeneutic-phenomenological approach guided the design. Results: The essential meaning of the next-of-kin experiences is reflected in the overarching t…
