Abstract This chapter approaches the question of biopolitics in ancient political thought looking not at specific political techniques but at notions of the final aim of the political community. It argues that the “happiness” (eudaimonia, beatitudo) that constitutes the greatest human good in the tradition from Aristotle to Thomas Aquinas is not a “biopolitical” ideal, but rather a metabiopolitical one, consisting in a contemplative activity situated above and beyond the biological and the political. Apocryphal Passions of the Apostles in Croatian Glagolitic Texts

In the course of the Middle Ages, apocryphal and hagiographic texts of The Acts of the Apostles of various origins became part of the Croatian Glagolitic literature. The Passion of Saint Andrew, for example, is documented in the sanctorale of nineteen Croatian Glagolitic breviaries dating from the period between the 14th and mid-16th centuries. The Glagolitic Passion is an abbreviated translation of the Latin Epistula presbyterorum et diaconorum Achaiae (BHL 428) from the 6th century. Drawing on Eccles’ expectancy-value model of achievement-related choices, we examined how work values predict individual and gender differences in sciences, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) participations in early adulthood (ages of 25/27, 6 or 8 years after postsecondary school), controlling for subjective task values attached to academic subjects in late adolescence (11th grade, age 18). The study examined 1,259 Finnish participants using a person-oriented approach. Il consumo di bevande alcoliche ha da sempre accompagnato la storia dell’uomo, riscontrandosi in tutte le civiltà, dalle meno evolute a quelle più progredite. Le scoperte scientifiche del XV secolo hanno messo in luce come tutti i popoli abbiano ampiamente sfruttato il fenomeno della fermentazione di cereali per produrre bevande. Lo stesso vino, inoltre, aveva assunto fin dai tempi più antichi un valore liturgico presso tutte le civiltà che si erano affacciate al Mediterraneo.
