Ethical Climate as Social Norm: Impact on Judgements and Behavioral Intentions in the Workplace.
2021
We present a study that looks at the relationship between the ethical climate, considered as a set of social norms, and judgments and behaviors in the workplace. In this case we think that an ethical rule reflecting the climate is only actualized in conduct and/or decisions if the rule is applicable, is shared, and is the subject of social expectations. A total of 277 professionals responded to a questionnaire measuring the normativity of three ethical rules, socio-moral judgment, trust in supervisors, turnover intention, and discrimination as well as abusive supervision. The results confirm our hypothesis. This leads to a different view of how the ethical climate is measured and constructe…
Appetite for destruction: A psychometric examination and prevalence estimation of destructive leadership in Sweden
2021
There is a growing awareness that destructive leadership has a significant negative impact on employe outcomes. However, little is known about the content and dimensionality of this multidimensional concept, and there are few reliable measures available for organizations and researchers to evaluate these behaviors. Based on a representative sample (N = 1132) of the Swedish workforce, the aim of this study is threefold: first, to examine the factor structure and validity of an easy-to-use multidimensional destructive leadership measure (Destrudo-L)in the general Swedish work context; second, to identify destructive leadership profiles using latent profile analysis (LPA), and determine in wha…
Accommodative Stimulus-Response Curve with Emoji Symbols
2017
Purpose. To evaluate the static measurement of the accommodative stimulus-response curve with emoji symbols. Methods. The accommodative stimulus-response curve was measured in 18 subjects using a Hartmann-Shack sensor to obtain the objective accommodative response from the Zernike defocus term. Measurements were acquired at different accommodative demands, from 0 to 3 D with a step of 0.5 D. Detailed and nondetailed emoji targets were used with two different sizes, corresponding to the two most common visual angles used in smartphones. Results. A regression analysis was performed to fit the mean results obtained for each target. The determination coefficient was R2≥0.988 for all targets. Fo…
3D reconstruction of hot metallic surfaces for industrial part characterization
2009
During industrial forging of big hot metallic shells, it is necessary to regularly measure the dimensions of the parts, especially the inner and outer diameters and the thickness of the walls, in order to decide when to stop the forging process. The inner and outer diameters of the shells range from 4 to 6 meters and to measure them a large ruler is placed horizontally at the end of the shell. Two blacksmiths standing on each side of the ruler at about ten meters from it visually reads the graduations on the ruler in order to determine the inner and outer diameters from which the thickness of the wall is determined. This operation is carried out several times during a forging process and it…
Accurate estimation of retinal vessel width using bagged decision trees and an extended multiresolution Hermite model.
2012
We present an algorithm estimating the width of retinal vessels in fundus camera images. The algorithm uses a novel parametric surface model of the cross-sectional intensities of vessels, and ensembles of bagged decision trees to estimate the local width from the parameters of the best-fit surface. We report comparative tests with REVIEW, currently the public database of reference for retinal width estimation, containing 16 images with 193 annotated vessel segments and 5066 profile points annotated manually by three independent experts. Comparative tests are reported also with our own set of 378 vessel widths selected sparsely in 38 images from the Tayside Scotland diabetic retinopathy scre…
CNGB3 mutations account for 50% of all cases with autosomal recessive achromatopsia
2005
Contains fulltext : 47591.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Achromatopsia is a congenital, autosomal recessively inherited disorder characterized by a lack of color discrimination, low visual acuity (<0.2), photophobia, and nystagmus. Mutations in the genes for CNGA3, CNGB3, and GNAT2 have been associated with this disorder. Here, we analyzed the spectrum and prevalence of CNGB3 gene mutations in a cohort of 341 independent patients with achromatopsia. In 163 patients, CNGB3 mutations could be identified. A total of 105 achromats carried apparent homozygous mutations, 44 were compound (double) heterozygotes, and 14 patients had only a single mutant allele. The derived CNGB3 mutatio…

Mutations in the Cone Photoreceptor G-Protein α-Subunit Gene GNAT2 in Patients with Achromatopsia
2002
Achromatopsia is an autosomal recessively inherited visual disorder that is present from birth and that features the absence of color discrimination. We here report the identification of five independent families with achromatopsia that segregate protein-truncation mutations in the GNAT2 gene, located on chromosome 1p13. GNAT2 encodes the cone photoreceptor-specific alpha-subunit of transducin, a G-protein of the phototransduction cascade, which couples to the visual pigment(s). Our results demonstrate that GNAT2 is the third gene implicated in achromatopsia.
Air-Coupled Imaging Method Applied to the Study and Conservation of Paintings
2007
An air-coupled acoustical imaging method for the study of wooden panel paintings is presented. After a brief overview of the state of the art, an introduction is given regarding the production technique of the art object under investigation. The technology employed is described in detail, as well as the proposed method. After a feasibility campaign of experiments, real ancient paintings have been investigated by means of a through-transmission and a single-sided lay-out. Defects were imaged in all the objects examined and in both the configurations adopted
