The value of T1-weighted sequences after intravenous administration of Gd-DTPA and of T2-weighted sequences was compared in 43 patients suspected of having scrotal abnormalities. T2-weighted sequences gave better demonstration of the tunica albuginea and better contrast between tumor and parenchyma. The two techniques were equally sensitive for demonstrating testicular tumors but orchitis was better demonstrated on the contrast enhanced sequences. Motion artifacts were less marked in the T1-weighted sequences with contrast enhancement. In selected cases, contrast enhancement may be a valuable addition to native protocols. Effects of dexamethasone on human synovial fibroblast-like cells, from osteoarthritic joints, in culture.

The effect of Dexamethasone (DEX) on cell division and macromolecular synthesis was investigated in a line (McCoy cells, A 9) of synovial fibroblast-like cells derived from human osteoarthritic joints. DEX markedly reduced the proliferation of McCoy cells in a time and dose-dependent manner. The maximal inhibition (45%) was found at 500 nM DEX 24 h after incubation and was accompanied by the appearance of giant macrophage-like cells. After DEX treatment cells showed increased content of DNA, proteins and RNA together with the reduction of [3H]-thymidine incorporation into the TCA-precipitable fraction.

Jauna stereoredzes testa izstrāde krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes novērtēšanai

Darbs uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 49 lappusēm. Tas satur 47 attēlus, 3 tabulas un atsauces uz 27 literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis bija izstrādāt jaunu datorizētu stereoredzes testu krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes novērtēšanai. Lokālās un globālās stereoredzes sliekšņi tika novērtēti pielietojot psihofizikālo trepju metodi. Pētījuma dalībnieku uzdevums bija atpazīt telpiskus attēlus. Stimuliem tika izvēlēti dažādi ekspozīcijas laiki – 5 sekundes (ilgais laiks), 550 ms un 250 ms (īsie laiki). Krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes stereoslieksnis dažādos vecumos

Maģistra darbs uzrakstīts uz 75 lappusēm, satur 40 attēlus, 10 tabulas un darbā ir atsauces uz 100 literatūras avotiem. Maģistra darba mērķis bija novērtēt krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes atšķirības dažāda vecuma cilvēkiem. Pētījuma dalībnieki tika iedalīti četrās vecuma grupās. Pētījumā piedalījās 61 dalībnieks (vecumā no 19 līdz 78 gadiem). Pētījuma dalībniekiem nebija acu slimības, redzes asums bija vismaz 0,0 vai labāks (LogMAR sistēmā). Stereoredzes noteikšanai tika izmantots digitālais izliedēto punktu globālā principa stereotests, kopā ar pakāpjveida psihofizikālo metodi. The last years have seen a growing interest in underwater acoustic communications because of its applications in marine research, oceanography, marine commercial operations, the offshore oil industry and defense. High-speed communication in the underwater acoustic channel has been challenging because of limited bandwidth, extended multipath, refractive properties of the medium, severe fading, rapid time variation and large Doppler shifts. Šī pētījuma galvenais mērķis bija novērtēt kā digitālo ierīču lietošanas izmaiņas ikdienā pirms Covid-19 pandēmijas un pandēmijas laikā Itālijā ietekmē acu nogurumu. Digitālo ierīču ietekme uz acīm tika novērtēta, apkopojot pētījuma dalībnieku atbildes uz anketas jautājumiem. Digitālo ierīču izmantošana mūsdienās ir plaši izplatīta, tās ir jāizmanto, bet ievērojot nepieciešamos piesardzības pasākumus, lai neradītu traucējumus redzes un psihiskajā sistēmās.

Developmental dyslexia: Visual abnormalities during ocular rotation

[u]Purpose[/u]: Most of the studies dealing with visual perception disabilities in children suffering from developmental dyslexia have been done in orthophoric position. The objective of the present study is to explore the visual perception during eye movements. [u]Methods[/u]: Sixty male patients (11.8 ± 1.8 years) were examined by neuropsychologists to evaluate reading difficulties.
