Human histidine-rich glycoprotein expressed in SF9 insect cells inhibits apatite formation

Histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG) is structurally related to the alpha2-HS glycoprotein/fetuin family of mammalian plasma proteins; both belong to the cystatin superfamily of proteins. We expressed recombinant human HRG and alpha2-HS in Sf9 insect cells for functional analysis. Recombinant HRG bound heparin and fibrinogen while alpha2-HS did not. Both proteins inhibited the formation of apatite, recombinant HRG (IC50 approximately 1 microM) with 2-fold lower molar activity than alpha2-HS (IC50 approximately 0.5 microM). The inhibition in vitro of apatite formation suggests a new function for plasma HRG protein, inhibition of phase separation in blood vessels.

Injectable Hydrogel for Synergetic Low Dose Radiotherapy, Chemodynamic Therapy and Photothermal Therapy

Higher doses of radiotherapy (RT) are associated with resistance induction, therefore highly selective and controllable radiosensitizers are urgently needed. To address this issue, we developed a FeGA-based injectable hydrogel system (FH) that can be used in combination with low-dose radiation. Our FH can deliver FeGA directly to the tumor site via intratumoral injection, where it is a reservoir-based system to conserve FeGA. Isoproterenol inhibits fluid-phase endocytosis from early to late endosomes

We have shown recently that isoproterenol affects both the cellular location and the morphology of late endosomes in a pH-dependent manner [Marjomäki et al., Eur. J. Cell Biol. 65, 1-13 (1994)]. In this study, using fluorescence and quantitative electron microscopy, we wanted to examine further what is the fate of internalized markers during their translocation from early to late endosomes under isoproterenol treatment. A heterocyclic oxime from a fungus with anti-juvenile hormone activity

Two fractions obtained after chromatography of dichloromethane extract of Penicillium brevicompactum culture medium showed anti-juvenile hormone activity. One was active when assayed in vivo against Oncopeltus fasciatus third-instar nymphs, whereas the other showed a strong in vitro inhibition of JH III biosynthesis on Locusta migratoria corpora allata. A subfraction of the latter, constituting 97% of this fraction, is a main component that possessed the juvenile hormone biosynthesis inhibitory activity. Ageratum houstonianum is a bedding and flowering potted plant originated from Central America which is generally propagate by seed. In this report a preliminary in vitro technique for propagation of A. houstonianum was investigated. In vitro germinated seeds were used to establish aseptic shoot cultures of several clones. Seedling stem segments bearing 3-4 nodes were placed on Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium plus 20 g L-1 sucrose, 8.0 g L-1 Agar to induce axillary shoot development. In this study, vitro-derived plantlets of ‘Carrizo’ citrange were inoculated with Glomus intraradices during the acclimatization phase, from in vitro to in vivo. Plantlets were grown in presence (+M) and in absence of inoculum (-M) and in addition, in sterile and non-sterile substrate. After three months of culture, some vegetative parameters and the level of infection, varied greatly in the different theses. In particular, the highest formation of new branched roots has been observed in inoculated plantlets cultivated in sterile substrate.
