A field-network model of a linear oscillating motor and its dynamics characteristics
2005
We describe a method of modeling of the dynamics characteristics for linear oscillating motors. We used electromagnetic finite-element analysis in the network model, which contains the electric circuit and mechanical equations. We compared the integral parameters of the electromagnetic field with the measured ones. We also compared the calculated and measured waves of the stator current for two values of supply voltage. The comparison yields a good agreement.
On the repeatability of the EMI for the monitoring of bonded joints
2015
We study the feasibility and the repeatability of the electromechanical impedance (EMI) method for the health monitoring of lightweight bonded joints. The EMI technique exploits the coupling between the displacement field and the potential field of a piezoelectric material, by attaching or embedding a piezoelectric transducer to the structure to be monitored. The sensor is excited by an external voltage and the electrical admittance which is the ratio between the electric current and the applied voltage is measured as it depends on the mechanical coupling between the transducer and the host structure. Owing to this interaction, the admittance may represent a signature for the health of the …
Outdoor Performance of 10 year Old a-Si and Poly-Si Modules in southern Norway conditions
2012
The outdoor performance of 10 years modules has been measured in southern Norway conditions. For this study, Poly-Si and a-Si modules are selected and the measurements are carried out using a portable electronic load. The I–V characteristics and maximum power have been recorded for several modules of each technology. It is found that Poly-Si modules perform very well even after 10 years of span whereas some of a-Si modules have visual degradation which causes significant power losses. The experimentally outdoor monitored values of P mp , V mp , short circuit current (I sc ), Open circuit voltage (V oc ) and efficiency for different modules are compared with manufacturer's values.
A comparison among different kinds of stator lamination in tubular linear machines
2016
In this paper the authors perform a comparison among three different stator structures for a Tubular Permanent Magnet Linear Machine. Each structure is characterized by its own lamination which is expected to contribute to the overall performance of the machine. A detailed analysis of the main figures of merit of the three configurations has been carried out in order to identify the configuration with the best characteristics. Significant data such as flux distribution, rated voltage and current, force on the moved and power losses have been compared. The results show that the choice of a mixed stator lamination allows to improve the performance of these machines.
Mechanism of porous core electroosmotic pump flow injection system and its application to determination of chromium(VI) in waste-water.
1999
An electroosmotic pump flow injection system is introduced in this paper. According to electroosmotic theory, the pump's properties were described. A large flow range (mul min(-1)-ml min(-1)), moderate carrier pressure (0.15 MPa), reduced performance voltage (500 V) and stable flow rate (RSD3.0% in 4 h) are the main properties of the pump. NH(4)OH (0.35 mM) was used as carrier for improving the pump's flow stability. The electroosmotic efficiency of the pump's medium, porous core, can be recovered and regenerated. A sandwich zone was used for sample and reagent introduction in order to adapt to the pump performance. Flow injection-spectrophotometry was employed for the determination of Cr(V…
Increasing voltage gradient electrophoresis of DNA
2007
We developed a method which allows electrophoretic fractionation of DNA in an agarose matrix according to an increasing current gradient, using a previously designed [R. Barbieri, V. Izzo, M.A. Costa, G. Giudice, G. Duro, Anal. Biochem. 212 (1993) 168; M.R. Asaro, V. Izzo, R. Barbieri, J. Chromatogr. A 855 (1999) 723] voltage gradient apparatus. This method allows the separation of different DNA fragments by increasing the distances of the components fractionated in the gel, revealing small differences in the length of different DNA components.
Energy Storage by using HVDC Power Cables
2018
The development of HVDC (high voltage direct current) systems closely follow the growth of global energy requirements. In particular, HVDC cables are conveniently used for the interconnection of geographical areas which need a low environmental impact and/or when submarines interconnections have to be built up. The paper investigates the stored energy value in an HVDC cable during its normal duty and if it is possible to take advantage of this energy when the cable is disconnected for some reason. In particular, the idea is to store the cable energy, which would be dissipated uselessly, by using a dedicated system and then reuse it when favorable conditions hold, e.g a convenient economic s…
New approach for harmonic mitigation in single-phase five-level CHBMI with fundamental frequency switching
2017
The main objective of this paper is to study and analyse the voltage output waveform of a multilevel inverter, to suggest a new approach for harmonic mitigation improving the converter performance. These last type of converters represent a new technology in the field of DC/AC electrical energy conversion, presenting advantages respect to the traditional converters. In fact, the multilevel power converters present a low harmonic content and a high voltage level. The paper considers a five-level single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter and fundamental frequency modulation techniques. The voltage waveform analysis has allowed to identify a working area of the converter where there are lowest va…
Online optimization of a multi-conversion-level DC home microgrid for system efficiency enhancement
2017
In this paper, an on-line management system for the optimal efficiency operation of a multi-bus DC home distribution system is proposed. The operation of the system is discussed with reference to a distribution system with two conversion stages and three voltage levels. In each of the conversion stages, three paralleled DC/DC converters are implemented. A Genetic Algorithm performs the on-line optimization of the DC network’s global efficiency, generating the optimal current sharing ratios of the concurrent power converters. The overall DC/DC conversion system including the optimization section is modelled using MATLAB/Simulink. Thanks to the implemented online algorithm, considering …
Fibre-Optic Links For A Measurement And Control System At A HV Laboratory
1990
The paper presents a fibre-optic linking system for a measurement and control system installed at an industrial HV laboratory. The indirect voltage and current measurement system is furnished with the E0/0E transducers and FO links. The exploitation requirements on the adequate measurement accuracy and reliability have necessitated the inclusion of additional, digital PO link feedback from the computer control system. The proposed measurement system with the FO link has been installed at an HV laboratory transformer of an electric power station and successfully tested together with the overall equipment.
