A new current-mode control for DC/DC converter

Current-sensing is used widely in smart power chips, especially in DC/DC converter for voltage regulator modules (VRM), implemented with interleaved synchronous rectifier buck converters. The interleaved technique main difficulty is due to its current-sharing control between the several modules. Besides, if the used control technique is current-mode type, it is necessary create a ramp signal proportional to current on the inductor. In this paper, a lossless current-sensing method, solving the major disadvantages of the current-mode control and implementing a current-sharing technique, is proposed. This innovative technique is tested in a two-module interleaved buck converter.

This paper presents a post-regulator based on the use of a controlled transformer, which adds or subtracts an additional voltage to the output filter of a converter in order to regulate its output voltage. So, their actuation is complementary to that of more known post-regulators, such as the magnetic amplifier (magamp) and synchronous switch post-regulator (SSPR), because the regulation is achieved by controlling the voltage across the filter inductor instead of its charge time. A Novel Linear-Non-Linear Digital Control for DC/DC Converter with Fast Transient Response

In this paper, a digitally controlled multimodule DC-DC converter with fast transient response, based on a linear-nonlinear control is presented. The proposed digital control improves the stability of the system, cuts off the effects of limit-cycle and reduces the recovery time, by making the "effective" bandwidth of the system independent of the bandwidth of the linear control loop and limits, at the same time, output voltage variations. A high-efficiency regulation technique for a zero-voltage zero-current power switching converter

This paper describes the application of a new regulation technique to a resonant converter that features zero-voltage (ZV) and zero-current (ZC) switching and works at constant frequency and duty cycle. The regulator utilizes the concept of regulating only a percentage of the total power in a bidirectional manner, thus allowing the converter to be optimized for both mass and efficiency. The proposed regulation technique has a wide range of applicability to almost all types of power converters or inverters that utilize a transformer to produce an isolated output. A demagnetization circuit for forward converters

This paper presents a demagnetization circuit able to operate the forward converter with an higher efficiency and with a wider input range. In particular, by the means of few added components, the magnetizing energy and the leakage one are continuously recovered, and the transformer reset and the primary mosfet OFF voltage clamp to the input, both under steady state and transient operations, are provided. A linear-non-linear digital control for multi-module DC/DC converters that improves system stability, solves the limit-cycle problem, reduces recovery time and limits over- and under-shoots in regulated output voltage, is presented. A simulation model in Matlab-Simulink/Active-HDL mixed environment is described. Preliminary hardware tests on a single-phase step-down converter are reported. Difference temperature-to-time electronic interface based on a thermistor-to-generalized impedance converter

Abstract In this work a difference temperature-to-time converter is shown using two thermistors working in a DC generalized impedance converter. Voltage drop in one of the thermistors depends on the temperature difference between them. This voltage is compared with a time varying exponential reference voltage obtaining a time interval at the output circuit with good linear dependence with respect to the input temperature difference. Experimental results are obtained showing a new generalized impedance converter application. The implemented circuit was characterized by a repeatability of 1.0%, a reproducibility of 4.5% and a relative accuracy of 1.3%.

Improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA using a voltage gradient up and down application

The improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA in a wide range of molecular masses is demonstrated using an "up and down" application of voltage gradient gel electrophoresis (VGGE). This application also allows separation of different DNA fragments which are poorly fractionated in conventional electrophoresis.

Thermally Tunable Surface Acoustic Wave Cavities

We experimentally demonstrate the dynamical tuning of the acoustic field in a surface acoustic wave (SAW) cavity defined by a periodic arrangement of metal stripes on LiNbO3 substrate. Applying a dc voltage to the ends of the metal grid results in a temperature rise due to resistive heating that changes the frequency response of the device up to 0.3%, which can be used to control the acoustic transmission through the structure. The timescale of the switching is demonstrated to be of about 200 ms. In addition, we have also performed finite-element simulations of the transmission spectrum of a model system, which exhibits a temperature dependence consistent with the experimental data. The adv…

Partial Discharge Detection Using a Spherical Electromagnetic Sensor

The presence of a partial discharge phenomenon in an electrical apparatus is a warning signal that could determine the failure of the insulation system, terminating the service of the apparatus and/or the network. In this paper, an innovative partial discharge (PD) measurement instrument based on an antenna sensor is presented and analyzed. Being non-intrusive is one of the most relevant features of the sensor. The frequency response of the antenna sensor and the features to recognize different PD sources and automatically synchronize them with the supply voltage are described and discussed in details.
