A symmetry adapted approach to the dynamic Jahn-Teller problem: Application to mixed-valence polyoxometalate clusters with keggin structure

2012

In this article, we present a symmetry-adapted approach aimed to the accurate solution of the dynamic vibronic problem in large scale Jahn-Teller (JT) systems. The algorithm for the solution of the eigen-problem takes full advantage of the point symmetry arguments. The system under consideration is supposed to consist of a set of electronic levels mixed by the active JT and pseudo JT vibrational modes. Applying the successive coupling of the bosonic creation operators, we introduce the irreducible tensors that are called multivibronic operators. Action of the irreducible multivibronic operators on the vacuum state creates the vibrational symmetry adapted basis that is subjected to the Gram-…

Structural diversity in charge transfer salts based on Mo3S7 and Mo3S4Se3 clusters complexes and bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (ET)

2007

Chemical modification of the trinuclear [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ2-S2)3Br6]2− cluster, at either the outer bromine or the disulfide ligands, allows the facile preparation of the dianions [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ2-S2)3(tdas)3]2− ([1]2−) (tdas = 1,2,5-thiadiazole-3,4-dithiol), [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ2-SSe)3Br6]2− ([2]2−) and [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ2-S2)3Cl6]2− ([3]2−). Electrocrystallization of bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (ET) in the presence of these dianions affords a series of charge transfer salts, namely (ETA)(ETB)[1], (ETA)(n-Bu4N)[2], (ETA)(ETB)[3]2·CH3CN, and ((ETA)(ETB)(ETC)(ETD))2{[3]2Cl}·CH3CN, where the ET subscripts denote crystallographically independent molecules. In all cases, the various cluster–cluster, cluster…

Mixed‐valence trinuclear manganese clusters : Influence of the electronic transfer on the magnetic properties

1990

The magnetic behavior of mixed‐valence trinuclear clusters d4‐d4‐d5 is discussed on the basis of a model which takes into account valence delocalization and Heisenberg exchange. This model considers the competing effect between the electronic transfer and the localization of the extra electron due to an asymmetry of the triangular entity. The magnetic properties of the mixed‐valence oxo‐centered Mn(II)‐Mn(III)‐Mn(III) complexes formulated as Mn3O(O2CR)6L3 (R=Me, L=pyridine) are discussed on the basis of the developed model, supporting a significant intramolecular electron transfer. A comparison of these results to those previously reported by assuming a valence‐trapped model is given. Carlo…

Valence electronic structure of C60: Theoretical analysis of photoemission data

1993

Abstract We present a theoretical investigation of the valence band photoemission spectra of C 60 using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. The VEH-DOVS curves calculated for the C 60 molecule are found to be in excellent agreement with synchrotron-radiation photoemission spectra reported for C 60 films. A detailed interpretation of all the photoemission bands is performed in the light of the VEH results.

Theoretical study on the effect of backbone conformation on the electronic structure of poly(di-n-butylsilane)

1993

Abstract We present the results of valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) calculations on the electronic structure of poly(di-n-butylsilane) in its all-trans and 7/3 conformations. The band structure of all-trans conformation is analyzed in detail and the effects of the backbone conformation on the electronic and optical properties are studied. The VEH results for the 2/1 and 7/3 conformations are in excellent quantitative agreement with photoemission and UV-absorption data and show the reliability of the VEH method to deal with organopolysilanes.

Structure and Properties of YbZnSn, YbAgSn, and Yb2Pt2Pb

1999

Abstract YbZnSn, YbAgSn, and Yb2Pt2Pb were synthesized by reacting the elements in sealed tantalum tubes in a high-frequency furnace. The structures of YbAgSn and Yb2Pt2Pb were refined from single crystal X-ray data: YbAgPb type, P 6 m2, a=479.2(2) pm, c=1087.3(3) pm, wR2=0.050, BASF=0.34(8), 509 F2 values, 18 variables for YbAgSn and Er2Au2Sn type, a=776.0(1) pm, c=701.8(2) pm, wR2=0.072, 426 F2 values, 18 variables for Yb2Pt2Pb. The lattice constants of YbZnSn are confirmed: NdPtSb type, P63mc, a=464.7(1) pm, c=747.7(2) pm. The stannides YbZnSn and YbAgSn crystallize with superstructures of the AlB2 type. The zinc (silver) and tin atoms form ordered Zn3Sn3 and Ag3Sn3 hexagons, respectivel…

Spin Switching in Molecular Quantum Cellular Automata Based on Mixed-Valence Tetrameric Units

2016

In this article we focus on the study of spin effects in a single square-planar mixed-valence cell comprising two electrons and in coupled molecular cells for quantum cellular automata. Using the vibronic model we demonstrate that the polarizabilities of the cell are different in spin-singlet and spin-triplet states of the electronic pair. Based on this inference the concept of spin switching in molecular quantum cellular automata is proposed, and the conditions under which this effect is feasible are derived. In order to reveal these conditions we have performed a series of quantum-mechanical calculations of the vibronic energy levels of the isolated cell and of the cell subjected to the e…

Characterization of the non-stoichiometry in lanthanum oxyfluoride by FT-IR absorption, Raman scattering, X-ray powder diffraction and thermal analys…

1997

Abstract The FT-IR absorption, FT-Raman scattering, X-ray powder diffraction (XPD), and thermogravimetry were used to explore the non-stoichiometry in LaOF. The TGA-DTA analyses between 30 and 1500°C showed that the LaO1 − xF1 + 2x phases yielded the stoichiometric LaOF as an intermediate product. The temperature of formation of the LaOF and La2O3 increased with increasing excess of fluoride. The room temperature XPD data in 6.5 ⩽ 2θ ⩽ 121° range were analyzed by the Rietveld profile refinement method and subsequently by the bond valence calculations. All LaO1 − xF1 + 2x phases possess the tetragonal PbFCl-type structure (space group: P4/nmm; Z = 2) while the stoichiometric LaOF has the hex…

A new series of π-extended tetrathiafulvalene derivatives incorporating fused furanodithiino and thienodithiino units: a joint experimental and theor…

2004

A new family of tetrathiafulvalenes has been prepared. The materials exhibit complex redox behaviour related to the electronic influence of the 1,4-dithiin moieties embedded within the framework of the molecules. The X-ray crystal structure of compound 4 reveals an unusual non-planar conformation of the heterocyclic compound, with the TTF fragment adopting a boat conformation. Theoretical calculations, performed at the DFT level (B3P86/6-31G*), confirm the boatlike structure (C2v symmetry) as the most stable conformation for this family of tetrathiafulvalenes. Upon oxidation, electrons are extracted from the whole molecule and the radical cations and dications remain highly distorted from p…
