Conversion of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone over Zr-containing metal-organic frameworks: Evidencing the role of Lewis and Brønsted acid sites

Zr-containing UiO-66 and MOF-808 are evaluated for converting levulinic acid (LA) into γ-valerolactone (GVL) through various routes: (i) Step-wise esterification of LA to n-butyl levulinate (nBuL) and Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction to GVL; (ii) One-pot two-steps esterification with n-butanol followed by MPV reduction with sec-butanol; and (iii) direct conversion of LA into GVL through a tandem reaction. Abstract 3,4-Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) is a new psychoactive substance (NPS) considered to be a cocaine-like psychostimulant. The substitution of an established illicit drug as cocaine with an NPS is a pattern of use reported among drug users. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between cocaine and MDPV in the reinstatement of the conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm, in order to establish whether there is cross-reinstatement between the two psychostimulants. La presente tesis doctoral presenta el desarrollo de diferentes tipos de catalizadores para la conversión de diferentes compuestos derivados de la biomasa en γ-valerolactona, un compuesto de alto valor añadido. En primer lugar se llevó a cabo el estudio de la producción de γ-valerolactona a partir de ácido levulínico, uno de los compuestos más fácilmente aislables de la biomasa y con elevado potencial de transformación.
