Technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine clearance: reference values for infants and children.

Six hundred and thirty-nine clearance studies performed in children aged 7 days to 19 years utilizing technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG 3) were retrospectively analysed. Standardized conditions for the investigation included: parenteral hydration (60 ml/hxm2 body surface) in addition to normal oral fluid intake, weight-related dose of99mTc-MAG 3 (1 MBq/kg body weight, minimum 15 MBq) and calculation of clearance according to Bubeck et al. Of the 513 children, 169 included in this analysis could be classified as “normal” with regard to their renal function. Supervised learning of time-independent Hamiltonians for gate design

We present a general framework to tackle the problem of finding time-independent dynamics generating target unitary evolutions. We show that this problem is equivalently stated as a set of conditions over the spectrum of the time-independent gate generator, thus transforming the task to an inverse eigenvalue problem. We illustrate our methodology by identifying suitable time-independent generators implementing Toffoli and Fredkin gates without the need for ancillae or effective evolutions. We show how the same conditions can be used to solve the problem numerically, via supervised learning techniques. Epistemic and didactic values of the demonstrative process in different cultures: a case study in Geometry with Chinese and Italian students

This paper presents same key findings of the research project conducted by G.R.I.M. of Palermo on the approaches to justification and proof in Geometry by investigating how Chinese and Italian teachers and students taught particular geometrical topics refereed to different epistemic and didactic values related to own culture. It was found that Chinese teachers and students emphasized justification of the proof by a stressed visual verification based on some metarules linked with the structure of their own written language and defined as historical Chinese modus operandi in the Jiuzhang Suanshu. The Italians paid close attention to mathematical proof by a hypoxemic deductive system defined on the Euclide’ Elements. The geometrical problem discussed on the paper was defined and presented as “one problem multiple solution problems” and “one problem multiple changes”. Important aspect of the case study discussed in the paper focus on the mediation of knowledge between Chinese and Italian students involved in multicultural class. When the smile is a cue to familiarity

International audience; The question discussed in the two following experiments concerns the effect of facial expressions on face recognition. Famous and unknown faces with neutral or smiling expression were presented for different inspection durations (15 ms vs 1000 ms). Subjects had to categorize these faces as famous or unknown (Experiment 1), or estimate their degree of familiarity on a rating scale (Experiment 2). Results showed that the smile increased ratings of familiarity for unfamiliar faces (Experiments 1 and 2) and for famous faces (Experiment 2). Chemical fingerprint of outdoor PM2.5 in Malta

Intro: RESPIRA (EU Funded - Italia-Malta 07-13) indicated that living in Malta is a risk factor for asthma. Aim: To determine the chemical profile of PM2.5 in Malta, and compare with reference values. Methods: Using FAI pumps at 10l/min/48hr, samples were collected on Teflon and Quartz filters from 6 schools and 46 homes in Malta. Total ICP-MS measurement (Residual+extracted), X ray Fluorescence, and thermo-optical methods(TO) were used for analysis by CNR in Rome. Aeroqual IQM60 counters were used for total PM2.5 mass. All data in ng/m3, Mean, (1st to 3rd quartile) of all 48 hour measurements.

Discrepancy between individual and organizational values : occupational burnout and work engagement among white-collar workers

Abstract This pilot study aimed to investigate the level of discrepancy between individual and organizational values, and assessed its impact on white-collar workers' job burnout and work engagement. The study examined the hypothesis that the better the fit between individual and organizational values, the higher the work engagement and the lower the risk of professional burnout.
