The aims of the present study were to review the validity of dietary methods used to measure the usual long chain (LC) omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFA) intake of a population and to assess the usefulness of different biomarkers ofn-3 PUFA in healthy humans. Two systematic literature searches were conducted until May 2011 to update previous systematic reviews. Why are consumers increasingly participating in alternative food chains to co-produce and distribute foods with farmers? In this paper, values and food-related lifestyles, as well as transaction costs and socio-demographics, are used to analyze consumer participation in alternative food chains in Italy. Using a simultaneous system of equations, a model with instrumental variables is implemented to measure the relationships between values and food-related lifestyles, and between the latter and participation in an alternative food chain. Weak versus strong dominance of shrinkage estimators

We consider the estimation of the mean of a multivariate normal distribution with known variance. Most studies consider the risk of competing estimators, that is the trace of the mean squared error matrix. In contrast we consider the whole mean squared error matrix, in particular its eigenvalues. We prove that there are only two distinct eigenvalues and apply our findings to the James–Stein and the Thompson class of estimators. It turns out that the famous Stein paradox is no longer a paradox when we consider the whole mean squared error matrix rather than only its trace.
