Numerical support for laser welding of zinc-coated sheets process development

2002

Abstract A lap welding process for zinc-coated sheets has been developed with the help of numerical simulations. This process has been improved and is now compatible with industrial requirements. The zinc boiling point (1180 K) is lower than the steel melting point (1800 K). Consequently, a violent boiling of zinc in melted steel produces serious defects in the seam. To get round this difficulty, we choose to consider a two-spots process: the first spot vaporizes the zinc coating at the interface; the second one welds the sheets. Previously, we develop a numerical model that permits a process parameters choice and limits the plan of experimentations. The zinc ablation spotlight shape is cho…

Retention of aroma compounds: an interlaboratory study on the effect of the composition of food matrices on thermodynamic parameters in comparison wi…

2010

BACKGROUND: Partition coefficients give an indication of the retention of aroma compounds by the food matrix. Data in the literature are obtained by various methods, under various conditions and expressed in various units, and it is thus difficult to compare the results. The aim of the present study was first to obtain gas/water and gas/matrix partition coefficients of selected aroma compounds, at different temperatures, in order to calculate thermodynamic parameters and second to compare the retention of these aroma compounds in different food matrices. RESULTS: Yogurts containing lipids and proteins induced a higher retention of aroma compounds than model gel matrices. The observed effect…

Onset of nuclear vaporization inAu197+197Au collisions

1993

Multifragmentation has been measured for [sup 197]Au+[sup 197]Au collisions at [ital E]/[ital A]=100, 250, and 400 MeV. The mean fragment multiplicity increases monotonically with the charged particle multiplicity at [ital E]/[ital A]=100 MeV, but decreases for central collisions with incident energy, consistent with the onset of nuclear vaporization. Molecular dynamics calculations follow some trends but underpredict the observed fragment multiplicities. Including the statistical decay of excited residues improves the agreement for peripheral collisions but worsens it for central collisions.

Vaporization and autoignition characteristics of ethanol and 1-propanol droplets : influence of water

2013

Detailed investigation of the vaporization of an isolated of ethanol and 1-propanol droplet was carried out in this experimental study. The experimental set-up consists of a heated chamber with a cross quartz fibers configuration as droplet support. An alcohol droplet is located at the intersection of the cross quartz fibre with a controlled initial diameter (300-600µm). Ambient temperature is varied from 298 to 973K at atmospheric pressure. The quasi-steady theory has been used to compare and to explain all experimental results. The real impact of the water concentration on the vaporization rate of an ethanol droplet is also examined, where two ‘quasi-steady’ periods are observed on the d2…

Vaporization characteristics of 1-propanol droplets at high temperatures

2011

International audience; The gasification of a droplet via vaporization is one of the main processes in combustion systems, namely diesel and propulsion engines. In these combustion systems, always the liquid fuel is atomized as a cloud of droplets in the chamber, which then vaporizes, and mixes with the oxidant and burns to release heat. Therefore, to afford a better knowledge especially in modelling complex spray flows and mixture formation issues, the study of the droplet vaporization which involves mass, heat and momentum transfer processes is really vital. Alcohol has been chosen for this particular study due to its potential as an alternative fuel to the current conventional hydrocarbo…

A comparative study of the behaviour of silver, copper and nickel submitted to a constant high power flux density

2005

In this paper, we present a numerical simulation of three metal cathode (silver, copper and nickel) submitted to a constant flux power flux density ranging between and . The goal is to compare the interface evolution (vaporization and liquefaction rate, appearance time of liquid and vapour, energetic repartition) to predict the behaviour of the cathodes during an electric arc.

Vaporization Characteristics of Ethanol Droplets: Influence of the Environment Humidity

2011

The study of the gasification of a droplet via vaporization, which involves heat, mass and momentum transfer processes in gas and liquid phases, and their coupling at the droplet interface, is necessary for better understanding and modeling of complex spray and mixture formation issues. A detailed description of the vaporization of an isolated droplet has been realized in this experimental study aimed at investigating the impact of the water vapor contained in the surrounding gas on the evaporation of an ethanol droplet. The experimental set-up consists of a heated chamber with a cross quartz fibers configuration as droplet support. An ethanol droplet is located at the intersection of the c…
