We present a design for producing precisely adjustable and alternating single-axis magnetic fields based on nested Halbach dipole pairs consisting of permanent magnets only. Our design allows for three dimensional optical and mechanical access to a region with strong adjustable dipolar fields, is compatible with systems operating under vacuum, and does not effectively dissipate heat under normal operational conditions. We present a theoretical analysis of the properties and capabilities of our design and construct a proof-of-concept prototype. Using our prototype, we demonstrate fields of up to several kilogauss with field homogeneities of better than 5%, which are harmonically modulated at…
Space‐vector state dynamic model of SynRM considering self‐ and cross‐saturation and related parameter identification
2020
This study proposes a state formulation of the space-vector dynamic model of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) considering both saturation and cross-saturation effects. The proposed model adopts the stator currents as state variables and has been theoretically developed in both the rotor and stator reference frames. The proposed magnetic model is based on a flux versus current approach and relies on the knowledge of 11 parameters. Starting from the definition of a suitable co-energy variation function, new flux versus current functions have been initially developed, based on the hyperbolic functions and, consequently, the static and dynamic inductance versus current functions have be…
Metrological Properties of the Test Setup for Determination Shielding Effectiveness of the Industrial Cable Connectors
2017
Abstract The paper presents results related to assessment of the repeatability and reproducibility of the measurement test setup for determination the relative value of the shielding effectiveness coefficient of the industrial connectors. The construction of the proposed test setup, the measurement method and the procedure for the analysis of measurement results were described. To determine the value of the repeatability and reproducibility coefficient, the two–way analysis of variance was used, which additionally allows for an assessment of the influence of individual sources of variance. The measurements and their analysis were conducted for several frequencies in the range up to 1 GHz. A…
Origin of Enzymatic Kinetic Isotope Effects in Human Purine Nucleoside Phosphorylase
2017
Here we report a study of the effect of heavy isotope labeling on the reaction catalyzed by human purine nucleoside phosphorylase (hPNP) to elucidate the origin of its catalytic effect and of the enzymatic kinetic isotope effect (EKIE). Using quantum mechanical and molecular mechanical (QM/MM) molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we study the mechanism of the hPNP enzyme and the dynamic effects by means of the calculation of the recrossing transmission coefficient. A free energy surface (FES), as a function of both a chemical and an environmental coordinate, is obtained to show the role of the environment on the chemical reaction. Analysis of reactive and nonreactive trajectories allows us …
A Study of Milk Particles Size Variation with pH Change using Dynamic Light Scattering
2019
A very simple experimental setup for a Dynamic Light Scattering measurement was used to measure the average size of the milk proteins in aqueous suspensions at 20 °C. The PH of the suspensions was adjusted using Calcium lactate, in its most common form of pentahydrate C6H10CaO6•5H2O. The mean size variation of the suspended particles in time has been monitored and reveals a fast increase over a time interval of less than ten of seconds.
Models for supercontinuum generation beyond the slowly-varying-envelope approximation
2014
International audience; We show numerically that both the modified Korteweg–de Vries and the sine-Gordon models are conducive to the generation of supercontinua with spectral bandwidths of several octaves, when an intense short pulse is launched as the initial condition. These models beyond the slowly-varying-envelope approximation could play an important role in modeling supercontinuum generation in gas-filled hollow waveguides.
Gold-Catalyzed Povarov-Type Reaction of Fluorinated Imino Esters and Furans
2016
A gold-catalyzed Povarov-type reaction of fluorinated imino esters and furans is described. The process, which takes place in dichoromethane at room temperature, gives rise to novel fluorinated tetrahydrofuran-fused tetrahydroquinolines in good yields and moderate levels of diastereo-selectivity in a very simple manner. The reported examples expand the versatility of the Povarov reaction to unprecedented fluorinated substrates, generating scaffolds that contain quaternary alpha-amino acid units.
Cis- and trans molybdenum oxo complexes of a prochiral tetradentate aminophenolate ligand : Synthesis, characterization and oxotransfer activity
2020
Abstract Reaction of [MoO2Cl2(dmso)2] with the tetradentate O2N2 donor ligand papy [H2papy = N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-picolyl)glycine] leads to formation of the dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex [MoO2(papy)] (1) as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. Recrystallization from methanol furnishes solid cis-1, whereas the use of a dichloromethane-hexane mixture allows for the isolation of the trans-1 isomer. Both isomers have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography and the energy difference between the isomeric pair has been investigated by electronic structure calculations. Optimization of two configurational isomers in the gas phase predicts the trans isomer to lie 2.5 kcal/mol lower…
Impact of internal variability on projections of Sahel precipitation change.
2017
12 pages; International audience; The impact of the increase of greenhouse gases on Sahelian precipitation is very uncertain in both its spatial pattern and magnitude. In particular, the relative importance of internal variability versus external forcings depends on the time horizon considered in the climate projection. In this study we address the respective roles of the internal climate variability versus external forcings on Sahelian precipitation by using the data from the CESM Large Ensemble Project, which consists of a 40 member ensemble performed with the CESM1-CAM5 coupled model for the period 1920–2100. We show that CESM1-CAM5 is able to simulate the mean and interannual variabilit…

Abstract. This study uses the synergy of multi-resolution soil moisture (SM) satellite estimates from the Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission, a dense network of ground-based SM measurements, and a soil–vegetation–atmosphere transfer (SVAT) model, SURFEX (externalized surface), module ISBA (interactions between soil, biosphere and atmosphere), to examine the benefits of the SMOS level 4 (SMOS-L4) version 3.0, or “all weather” high-resolution soil moisture disaggregated product (SMOS-L43.0; ∼1 km). The added value compared to SMOS level 3 (SMOS-L3; ∼25 km) and SMOS level 2 (SMOS-L2; ∼15 km) is investigated. In situ SM observations over the Valencia anchor station (VAS; SMOS calibrati…
