A Function Algebra Providing New Mergelyan Type Theorems in Several Complex Variables

For compact sets $K\subset \mathbb C^{d}$, we introduce a subalgebra $A_{D}(K)$ of $A(K)$, which allows us to obtain Mergelyan type theorems for products of planar compact sets as well as for graphs of functions.

Crossover scaling in two dimensions

We determine the scaling functions describing the crossover from Ising-like critical behavior to classical critical behavior in two-dimensional systems with a variable interaction range. Since this crossover spans several decades in the reduced temperature as well as in the finite-size crossover variable, it has up to now largely evaded a satisfactory numerical determination. Using a new Monte Carlo method, we could obtain accurate results for sufficiently large interactions ranges. Our data cover the full crossover region both above and below the critical temperature and support the hypothesis that the crossover functions are universal. Estimation des modèles dynamiques à erreurs composées avec autocorrélation par la méthode des variables instrumentales

In this paper, we consider a dynamic error-components models with autocorrelated disturbances. We analyse the efficient estimation procedure of autocorrelation parameter and we try to find out whether moment conditions of a dynamic model without autocorrelation are valid when the model includes autocorrelation. We propose two efficient estimation methods of autocorrelation parameter in addition to Baltagi and Li (1994) estimator. We show that all moment conditions of a dynamic model without autocorrelation are not valid in dynamics errors-components models with autocorrelated disturbances.

Non-local time evolution of material stress/strain is often referred to as material hereditariness. In this paper, the widely used non-linear approach to single integral time non-local mechanics named quasi-linear approach is proposed in the context of fractional differential calculus. Unitary Space–Time Constellation Design Based on the Chernoff Bound of the Pairwise Error Probability

Unitary space-time constellation design is considered for noncoherent multiple-antenna communications, where neither the transmitter nor the receiver knows the fading coefficients of the channel. By employing the Clarke's subdifferential theorem of the sum of the kappa largest singular values of a unitary matrix, we present a numerical optimization procedure for finding unitary space-time signal constellations of any dimension. The Chernoff bound of the pairwise error probability is used directly as a design criterion. We present general principles underlying analysis of the dependence of random variables (outputs) on deterministic conditions (inputs). Random outputs recorded under mutually exclusive input values are labeled by these values and considered stochastically unrelated, possessing no joint distribution. An input that does not directly influence an output creates a context for the latter. Any constraint imposed on the dependence of random outputs on inputs can be characterized by considering all possible couplings (joint distributions) imposed on stochastically unrelated outputs. Intertemporal Substitution in the Spanish Economy: Evidence from Regional Data*

This paper studies the intertemporal substitution in consumption and leisure for the Spanish economy by estimating the first‐order conditions of an individual optimization model with regional and aggregate data. While first‐order conditions determining intertemporal substitution in consumption show a good econometric fit, and the value we obtain for the intertemporal elasticity of substitution is similar to previously available results, the econometric fit of the intertemporal condition in leisure indicates that the behaviour of the Spanish labour supply over the cycle is more complex than can be explained by the canonical intertemporal choice model.

Assessment of ecosystem integrity and service gradients across Europe using the LTER Europe network

Better integration of knowledge from ecological, social and economic science is necessary to advance the understanding and modelling of socio-ecological systems. To model ecosystem integrity (EI) and ecosystem services (ES) at the landscape scale, assessment matrices are commonly used. These matrices assign capacities to provide different services to different land cover types. We revised such an existing matrix and examined the regional heterogeneity in EI and ES provision in Europe and searched for spatial gradients in their provision to elucidate their suitability for large-scale EI and ES mapping in Europe.
