Radiometric correction effects in Landsat multi‐date/multi‐sensor change detection studies

Radiometric corrections serve to remove the effects that alter the spectral characteristics of land features, except for actual changes in ground target, becoming mandatory in multi‐sensor, multi‐date studies. In this paper, we evaluate the effects of two types of radiometric correction methods (absolute and relative) for the determination of land cover changes, using Landsat TM and Landsat ETM+ images. In addition, we present an improvement made to the relative correction method addressed. Genome-wide analysis of multi-ancestry cohorts identifies new loci influencing intraocular pressure and susceptibility to glaucoma

Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is an important risk factor in developing glaucoma, and variability in IOP might herald glaucomatous development or progression. We report the results of a genome-wide association study meta-analysis of 18 population cohorts from the International Glaucoma Genetics Consortium (IGGC), comprising 35,296 multi-ancestry participants for IOP. We confirm genetic association of known loci for IOP and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and identify four new IOP-associated loci located on chromosome 3q25.31 within the FNDC3B gene (P = 4.19 x 10(-8) for rs6445055), two on chromosome 9 (P = 2.80 x 10(-11) for rs2472493 near ABCA1 and P = 6.39 x 10(-11) for rs8176693…

Measurement of the charge asymmetry in top quark pair production in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the top-antitop production charge asymmetry A[subscript C] is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb[superscript −1] of pp collisions at s√=7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events are selected with a single lepton (electron or muon), missing transverse momentum and at least four jets of which at least one jet is identified as coming from a b-quark. A kinematic fit is used to reconstruct the t[bar over t] event topology. After background subtraction, a Bayesian unfolding procedure is performed to correct for acceptance and detector effects. Algebraic models of the Euclidean plane

We introduce a new invariant, the real (logarithmic)-Kodaira dimension, that allows to distinguish smooth real algebraic surfaces up to birational diffeomorphism. As an application, we construct infinite families of smooth rational real algebraic surfaces with trivial homology groups, whose real loci are diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^2$, but which are pairwise not birationally diffeomorphic. There are thus infinitely many non-trivial models of the euclidean plane, contrary to the compact case.

A mode coupling analysis of the central peak at order disorder phase transitions

The influence of local and translation invariant memory effects on the critical dynamics of a model undergoing a continous structural phase transition from a disordered (T>Tc) to an ordered distorted phase (T>Tc) is studied by mode coupling theory above the critical temperatureTc. Measurement of directCPviolation parameters inB±→J/ψK±andB±→J/ψπ±decays with10.4  fb−1of Tevatron data

We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B-+/- mesons decaying to J/psi K-+/- and J/psi pi(+/-) where J/psi decays to mu(+)mu(-), using the full run II data set of 10.4 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B- and B+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of A(J/psi K) = [0.59 +/- 0.37]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and A(J/psi pi) = [-4.2 +/- 4.5]%. Both measurements are consistent with standard model predictions.

Λb→J/ψK0Λreaction and a hidden-charm pentaquark state with strangeness

We study the Lambda(b) -> J/psi K-0 Lambda reaction considering both the K-0 Lambda interaction with its coupled channels and the J/psi Lambda interaction. The latter is described by taking into account the fact that there are predictions for a hidden-charm state with strangeness that couples to J/psi Lambda By using the coupling of the resonance to J/psi Lambda from these predictions, we show that a neat peak can be observed in the J/psi Lambda invariant mass distribution, rather stable under changes of unknown magnitudes. In some cases, one finds a dip structure associated to that state, but a signal of the state shows up in the J/psi Lambda spectrum.

On invariant manifolds of saddle points for 3D multistable models

In dynamical systems a particular solution is completely determined by the parameters considered and the initial conditions. Indeed, when the model shows a multistability, starting from different initial state, the trajectories can evolve towards different attractors. The invariant manifolds of the saddle points separate the vector field into the basins of attraction of different stable equilibria. The aim of this work is the reconstruction of these separation surfaces in order to know in advance the geometry of the basins. A solution to the strong CP problem transforming the theta angle to the KM CP-violating phase

It is shown that in the scheme with a rotating fermion mass matrix (i.e. one with a scale-dependent orientation in generation space) suggested earlier for explaining fermion mixing and mass hierarchy, the theta angle term in the QCD action of topological origin can be eliminated by chiral transformations, while giving still nonzero masses to all quarks. Instead, the effects of such transformations get transmitted by the rotation to the CKM matrix as the KM phase giving, for theta of order unity, a Jarlskog invariant typically of order 10(-5), as experimentally observed. Strong and weak CP violations appear then as just two facets of the same phenomenon.
