Determination of the factors that condition the quality of an university: practical application of a factorial analysis

2003

This article supposes a practical application of the technique of the factorial analysis. Their particularity resides in the nature of the variables that we try to study (conditions of the university quality), of the instrument designed for the study (questionnaire of evaluation) and of the basic objective of this work that is not another that to pick up the opinion of a representative sample of students on the dimensions and elements that they have to conform a model of indicators of university quality. After a first exhibition of ideas in the one that different concomitant elements of the university quality are commented, this technique, applied on a total of 110 ordinal scales, she has g…

In 2019 Michele Mari publishes a second edition of th…

Isolation of Abiotrophia adiacens from a brain abscess which developed in a patient after neurosurgery.

1999

ABSTRACT We report the case of a patient who developed a large brain abscess after neurosurgery. Cerebrospinal fluid from the abscess drainage yielded Abiotrophia adiacens -specific PCR products and microorganisms that were identified by conventional microbiological methods and by 16S ribosomal DNA analysis as Abiotrophia adiacens , which was formerly classified as a member of nutritionally variant streptococci.

Norovirus GII.4/Sydney/2012 in Italy, Winter 2012–2013

2013

To the Editor: Noroviruses (NoVs) are the major cause of acute gastroenteritis in children and adults; they are responsible for sporadic cases and outbreaks of gastroenteritis in various epidemiologic settings. NoVs can be classified genetically into at least 5 genogroups, GI to GV (1). Although >30 genotypes within genogroups GI, GII, and GIV can infect humans (2), a single genotype, GII.4, has been associated with most NoV-related outbreaks and sporadic cases of gastroenteritis worldwide (3). GII.4 NoV strains continuously undergo genetic/antigenic diversification and periodically generate novel strains through accumulation of punctate mutations or recombination. New GII.4 variants emerge…

Granulicatella spp., a Causative Agent of Infective Endocarditis in Children

2022

Granulicatella spp. are non-motile, non-sporulating, facultatively anaerobic Gram-positive cocci. Throughout the literature, these organisms have been referred to by several names, such as “nutritionally deficient streptococci”, “vitamin-B dependent streptococci” and “pyridoxal-dependent streptococci”, because of their fastidious nutritional requirements, which can often make culture isolation challenging. Known to be a member of the normal microbiota of the human oral cavity and urogenital and intestinal tracts, similar to other streptococci, Granulicatella spp. can cause bacteremia, sepsis and infective endocarditis. Considering the difficulty in growing this organism on culture medium, t…

Primary Microcephaly with Novel Variant of MCPH1 Gene in Twins: Both Manifesting in Childhood at the Same Time with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

2020

AbstractThis study is a clinical report on twin females affected by primary microcephaly who displayed at molecular analysis of heterozygous novel MCPH1 variant. The twins at the age of 10 years developed, in coincidental time, a diagnosis of autoimmune juvenile thyroiditis. The main clinical features presented by the twins consisted of primary microcephaly with occipitofrontal circumference measuring −2 or −3 standard deviation, facial dysmorphism, typical nonsyndromic microcephaly, and mild intellectual disability. Molecular analysis of the major genes involved in primary microcephaly was performed and the following result was found in the twins: MCPH1; chr8.6357416; c.2180 C > T (rs 1…

MR2645846 (2011f:46031) Day, Jerry B.; Lennard, Chris A characterization of the minimal invariant sets of Alspach's mapping. Nonlinear Anal. 73 (2010…

2011

Weakly compact, convex subsets in a Banach space need not have the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings, as shown by D.E. Alspach in [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 82 (1981), no. 3, 423–424; MR0612733 (82j:47070)], where the example of a weakly compact, convex subset $C$ of $L_1[0,1]$ and of a nonexpansive self mapping $T$ on $C$ fixed point free is provided. Then, by Zorn's lemma, there exist weakly compact, convex, $T$-invariant fixed point free subsets of the set $C$ which are minimal with respect to these properties. But these minimal invariant sets have not been explicitly characterized. In the paper under review the authors give an explicit formula for the $n$th power $T^n$ of the …

Comparing Correlation Matrix Estimators Via Kullback-Leibler Divergence

2011

We use a self-averaging measure called Kullback-Leibler divergence to evaluate the performance of four different correlation estimators: Fourier, Pearson, Maximum Likelihood and Hayashi-Yoshida estimator. The study uses simulated transaction prices for a large number of stocks and different data generating mechanisms, including synchronous and non-synchronous transactions, homogeneous and heterogeneous inter-transaction time. Different distributions of stock returns, i.e. multivariate Normal and multivariate Student's t-distribution, are also considered. We show that Fourier and Pearson estimators are equivalent proxies of the `true' correlation matrix within all the settings under analysis…
