A new upper limit of the electron anti neutrino rest mass from tritium β-decay

Abstract A new upper limit of the electron anti neutrino rest mass has been deduced from the tritium β-decay spectrum. A source of molecular tritium has been investigated with a new solenoid retarding spectrometer. The results are m ν ϵ 2 = −38.8 ± 34.1 stat ± 15.1 syst (eV) 2 /c 4 from which we conclude m ν ϵ ≤ 7.2 eV/c 2 with 95% c.l. Our β-endpoint corresponds to a 3H-3He atomic mass difference of Δm( 3 H- 3 He) = 18590.8 ± 3 eV/c 2 (1σ) .
High-statistics analysis of $$\bar pp \to \pi ^0 \pi ^0 \pi ^0 $$ at restat rest

Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest into 3π0 is analysed based on a data sample of about 500 000 high-quality 3π0 events. In this high-statistics Dalitz plot two structures in the region of π0π0 invariant masses of about 1500 MeV show up, a small band and a blob at higher masses. In a first attempt to describe the data two different models are used to parametrize the dynamical amplitudes leading to the same conclusion: the data require a 0+ + and also a 2+ + resonance in the 1500 MeV region.

Abstract Given two operators A and T ( A ≥ 0 , ‖ A ‖ = 1 ) on a Hilbert space H satisfying T ⁎ A T ≤ A , we study the maximum subspace of H which reduces M = A 1 / 2 T to a quasi-isometry, that is on which the equality M ⁎ M = M ⁎ 2 M 2 holds. In some cases, this subspace coincides with the maximum subspace which reduces M to a normal partial isometry, for example when A = T T ⁎ , and in particular if T ⁎ is a cohyponormal contraction. In this case the corresponding subspace can be completely described in terms of asymptotic limit of the contraction T. Fictitious Domain Methods for the Numerical Solution of Two-Dimensional Scattering Problems

Fictitious domain methods for the numerical solution of two-dimensional scattering problems are considered. The original exterior boundary value problem is approximated by truncating the unbounded domain and by imposing a nonreflecting boundary condition on the artificial boundary. First-order, second-order, and exact nonreflecting boundary conditions are tested on rectangular and circular boundaries. The finite element discretizations of the corresponding approximate boundary value problems are performed using locally fitted meshes, and the discrete equations are solved with fictitious domain methods. Convex and expansive liftings close to two-isometries and power bounded operators

Abstract In the context of Hilbert space operators, there is a strong relationship between convex and expansive operators and 2-isometries. In this paper, we investigate the bounded linear operators T on a Hilbert space H which have a 2-isometric lifting S on a Hilbert space K containing H as a closed subspace invariant for S ⁎ S . This last property holds in particular when S | K ⊖ H is an isometry. We relate such 2-isometric liftings S by some convex, concave or expansive liftings of the same type as S. We also examine some power bounded operators with such liftings, as well as an intermediate expansive lifting associated with T on the space H ⊕ l + 2 ( H ) . The latter notion is used to …

Abstract For two operators A and T ( A ≥ 0 ) on a Hilbert space H satisfying T ⁎ A T = A and the A-regularity condition A T = A 1 / 2 T A 1 / 2 we study the subspace N ( A − A 2 ) in connection with N ( A T − T A ) , for T belonging to different classes. Our results generalize those due to C. Kubrusly concerning the case when T is a contraction and A = S T is the asymptotic limit of T. Also, the particular case of a 2-isometry in the sense of S. Richter as well as J. Agler and M. Stankus is considered.
