Uncommon Synchronous Association between Ovarian Carcinoma and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Study and Literature Review

Background The association of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and other cancers is well known, but its synchronous occurrence with gynecological malignancies is very uncommon. Usually, the diagnosis is accidentally established. We describe a patient with GIST and concurrent ovarian cancer and discuss the clinical implications of this finding. Case report A 64-year-old woman with a prior diagnosis of ovarian cancer developed a second recurrence after having undergone two operations and adjuvant chemotherapy. Osteoporosis is a multifactorial skeletal pathology with a main genetic component. To date, however, the majority of genes associated with this pathology remain unknown since genes cataloged to date only explain a part of the heritability of bone phenotypes. In the present study, we have used a genome-wide gene expression approach by means of microarrays to identify new candidate genes involved in the physiopathology of osteoporosis, using as a model the ovariectomized (OVX) mice by comparing global bone marrow gene expression of the OVX mice with those of SHAM operated mice. Aquesta anàlisi intenta mostrar com el populisme ha donat suport als particularismes lingüístics a València i a Mallorca. Aquests particularismes (anomenats blaverisme a València, i gonellisme a Mallorca) no reconeixen la unitat de la comunitat lingüística catalana, i per tant amenacen la recuperació social (normalització) de la llengua catalana.

Previous data from our group have provided support for the role of GH, melatonin and estrogens in the prevention of aging of several physiological parameters from bone, liver metabolism, vascular activity, the central nervous system (CNS), the immune system and the skin. In the present work data on the molecular mechanisms involved are presented. A total of 140 male and female rats have been submitted to different treatments over 10 weeks, between 22 and 24 months of age. Males have been treated with GH and melatonin. We investigate a number of formal properties of the adiabatic strictly-correlated electrons (SCE) functional, relevant for time-dependent potentials and for kernels in linear response time-dependent density functional theory. Among the former, we focus on the compliance to constraints of exact many-body theories, such as the generalised translational invariance and the zero-force theorem. Within the latter, we derive an analytical expression for the adiabatic SCE Hartree exchange-correlation kernel in one dimensional systems, and we compute it numerically for a variety of model densities. Voisin's Conjecture for 0-cycles on Calabi-Yau varieties and their mirror

We study a conjecture, due to Voisin, on 0-cycles on varieties with pg = 1. Using Kimura’s finite dimensional motives and recent results of Vial’s on the refined (Chow–)Künneth decomposition, we provide a general criterion for Calabi–Yau manifolds of dimension at most 5 to verify Voisin’s conjecture. We then check, using in most cases some cohomological computations on the mirror partners, that the criterion can be successfully applied to various examples in each dimension up to 5.

Mathematical modelling tasks increasingly feature the use of digital tools and media. In this chapter, we discuss the wide variety of these. Until now, classifications for modelling tasks did not consider the use of tools and media. Therefore, we developed a new classification for ICT-based modelling tasks. One class relates to mathematics; the others differentiate across (1) modelling aspects unrelated to tool and media, (2) the task context, (3) the digital tools and media (CAS, Wikipedia, type of feedback, etc.) and (4) students’ anticipated activities guided by task regulations, such as group work or time restrictions.
