The effects of a subvention scheme for e-bikes on mode share and active mobility

2022

Hanne Beate Sundfør, Aslak Fyhri, The effects of a subvention scheme for e-bikes on mode share and active mobility, Journal of Transport & Health, Volume 26, 2022, 101403, ISSN 2214-1405, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jth.2022.101403 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2214140522000755) Introduction Previous studies show substantial mode share effects from e-bikes. E-bike owners cycle more and drive less car than they would without access to an e-bike. Support schemes for e-bikes exist in a number of countries, but knowledge about the effect of subsidies on active transport is limited. The aim of this study is to assess the mode change and active mobility effects of a subvention…

Themes within lecturers' views on the teaching of linear algebra

2019

Author's accepted manuscript (postprint). This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology on 25/09/2019, available online: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/0020739X.2019.1668976. Available from 26/09/2020. This paper reports on themes that arose in an investigation of university lecturers’ views on the teaching of linear algebra. This focus on themes was the initial part of a study concentrating on four areas: What is important to teach in a first course in linear algebra? Are there teaching methods which are particularly suited for such a course? Are there tools that should/should not …

Research of smart car's speed control based on the internal model control

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/274293 Open Access Based on analyzing principle about the smart car's speed control system, the system mathematical model is built. Considering the control optimization, a novel control scheme is proposed based on internal model control, and the internal model controller of speed control system is established. Regarding this subject, the internal control theory is introduced to verify the control performance; the traditional PID control method is employed in the experiment. The experiment indicates that the proposed method based on internal mode…

Development of La3+ Doped CeOthick film humidity sensors

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/297632 Open Access The humidity sensitive characteristics of the sensor fabricated from 10 mol% Ladoped CeOnanopowders with particle size 17.26 nm synthesized via hydrothermal method were investigated at different frequencies. It was found that the sensor shows high humidity sensitivity, rapid response-recovery characteristics, and narrow hysteresis loop at 100 Hz in the relative humidity range from 11% to 95%. The impedance of the sensor decreases by about five orders of magnitude as relative humidity increases. The maximum humidity hysteresis …

Self-reported playing time and justice as predictors of coach satisfaction: An analysis of elite ice-hockey and handball players

2020

Intrateam competition for specific roles and playing time is a continuous imperative process in elite sport teams. The assessment of this competition is done by the coach and the outcome of this process has a significant impact on the team and the players. The following hypothesis was put forward for testing: Self-reported playing time and perceptions of justice among elite ice-hockey and handball players predict their satisfaction with the coach. Elite ice-hockey and handball players (N = 231) reported playing time and completed the Perceived Justice and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaires. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses show that self-reported playing time, distributive justice…

Effects of a brief pre‑admission telephone reminder on no‑show and dropout rates in substance use disorder treatment: a quasi‑experimental study

2022

Abstract Background Appointment no-show and early dropout from treatment represent major challenges in outpatient substance use disorder treatment, adversely affecting clinical outcomes and health care productivity. In this quasi-experimental study, we examined how a brief reminder intervention for new patients before their first appointment affected treatment participation and retention. No-shows (not attending any sessions) and dropouts (discontinuation of initiated treatment because of three consecutively missed appointments) were compared between a period with pre-admission telephone calls (intervention) and a period without such reminders (non-intervention). Methods Participants were a…

Forecasting Aquaponic Systems Behaviour With Recurrent Neural Networks Models

2022

Aquaponic systems provide a reliable solution to grow vegetables while cultivating fish (or other aquatic organisms) in a controlled environment. The main advantage of these systems compared with traditional soil-based agriculture and aquaculture installations is the ability to produce fish and vegetables with low water consumption. Aquaponics requires a robust control system capable of optimizing fish and plant growth while ensuring a safe operation. To support the control system, this work explores the design process of Deep Learning models based on Recurrent Neural Networks to forecast one hour of pH values in small-scale industrial Aquaponics. This implementation guides us through the m…

Habitat associations of juvenile Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) and sympatric demersal fish communities within shallow inshore nursery grounds

2022

Resolving the relationship between demersal fish and sublittoral biotic habitats and substrates is a key element in the protection of important nursery grounds for strengthening fish recruitment. In Norway, coastal Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) is a commercially and culturally important demersal fish for Norwegian coastal communities, and in recent decades the stock has declined to such an extent that a plan to rebuild the stock to biologically safe limits has been implemented. Yet, little is known about the specific biotic and abiotic habitat associations of the early-life stages of coastal cod, which is important for the management and protection of the species. The same shallow, sublitt…

Welfare effects of environmental hypercapnia quantified by indicators based on morphology and allostatic load in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)

2023

Water supply is a limited resource in most salmon hatcheries, which is compensated by reduced water flow and oxygenation. However, reduced water exchange can lead to accumulation of CO2, resulting in environmental hypercapnia, which may have negative impacts on fish welfare. Thus, environmental hypercapnia can be a common welfare problem for salmon in hatcheries, and particularly in recirculating systems (RAS). In this experiment, Atlantic salmon were exposed to chronic environmental hypercapnia during the last 68 days of the freshwater phase, whereupon effects on physiological stress coping mechanisms and morphological welfare indicators were investigated. Effects on stress coping mechanis…
