In this work multiple depot vehicle routing problem is considered in case of variable travel times between nodes on a metropolis network. This variant of the classic multiple depot vehicle routing problem is motivated by the fact that in urban contexts variable traffic conditions play an essential role and can not be ignored in order to perform a realistic optimization. Time-travel matrices corresponding to each period of planning horizon were formed by solving the traffic assignment problem in conjunction with shortest path problem. Predicting sediment deposition rate in check-dams using machine learning techniques and high-resolution DEMs

Sediments accumulated in check dams are a valuable measure to estimate soil erosion rates. Here, geographic information systems (GIS) and three machine learning techniques (MARS-multivariate adaptive regression splines, RF-random forest and SVM-support vector machine) were used, for the first time, to predict sediment deposition rate (SR) in check-dams located in six watersheds in SW Spain. There, 160 dry-stone check dams (~ 77.8 check-dams km−2), accumulated sediments during a period that varied from 11 to 23 years. Dynamic response of beams excited by moving oscillators: Approximate analytical solutions for general boundary conditions

In this paper, the dynamic response of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with general boundary conditions (BCs) and subject to a moving oscillator is examined. Notably, novel approximate closed-form expressions are determined for the vertical responses of both the beam and the moving oscillator, specifically considering the effect of damping in these systems, commonly omitted in standard approaches in the literature. Performance and international investments in microfinance institutions

Preprint of the published version of an article from Strategic Change Using data from 319 microfinance institutions (MFIs) in 68 developing countries, we study the degree to which international debt investments are related to the financial and social performances of MFIs. We find that commercial investments are mainly related to financial performance and level of professionalisation of the MFIs. The targeting of women is not a priority, even though international commercial investors target MFIs that provide small loans. Subsidised investments, however, are mainly driven by the targeting of women, while financial performance and the level of professionalisation of the MFI is not a priority.
Force-induced diffusion in microrheology

We investigate the force-induced diffusive motion of a tracer particle inside a glass-forming suspension when a strong external force is applied to the probe (active nonlinear microrheology). A schematic model of mode-coupling theory introduced recently is extended to describe the transient dynamics of the probe particle, and used to analyze recent molecular-dynamics simulation data. The model describes non-trivial transient displacements of the probe before a steady-state velocity is reached. Abstract We derive an exact deterministic nonlinear estimator to compute the continuous state of a nonlinear time-varying system based on discrete, non uniformly time spaced, state measurements. The system consists of a robot arm mounted on a mobile non holonomic vehicle. The paper also discusses the effect on the estimation error of a bounded input additive noise.
Modeling of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Channels in the Presence of Moving Scatterers

In this paper, we derive a vehicle-to-vehicle~(V2V) channel model assuming a typical propagation scenario in which the local scatterers move with random velocities in random directions. The complex channel gain of the proposed V2V channel model is provided. Subsequently, for different scatterer velocity distributions, the corresponding autocorrelation functions~(ACFs) are derived, illustrated, and compared with the classical ACF derived under the assumption of fixed scatterers.
