Piecewise planar underwater mosaicing
2015
A commonly ignored problem in planar mosaics, yet often present in practice, is the selection of a reference homography reprojection frame where to attach the successive image frames of the mosaic. A bad choice for the reference frame can lead to severe distortions in the mosaic and can degenerate in incorrect configurations after some sequential frame concatenations. This problem is accentuated in uncontrolled underwater acquisition setups as those provided by AUVs or ROVs due to both the noisy trajectory of the acquisition vehicle — with roll and pitch shakes — and to the non-flat nature of the seabed which tends to break the planarity assumption implicit in the mosaic construction. These…
Modeling Efficient and Effective Communications in VANET through Population Protocols
2021
Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs) enable a countless set of next-generation applications thanks to the technological progress of the last decades. These applications rely on the assumption that a simple network of vehicles can be extended with more complex and powerful network infrastructure, in which several Road Side Units (RSUs) are employed to achieve application-specific goals. However, this assumption is not always satisfied as in many real-world scenarios it is unfeasible to have a conspicuous deployment of RSUs, due to both economic and environmental constraints. With the aim to overcome this limitation, in this paper we investigate how the only Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communicati…

MODELING TORQUE TRANSMISSIBILITY FOR AUTOMOTIVE DRY CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT
2008
The dry clutch is a fundamental component in many automotive drivelines. For instance, the clutch torque transmissibility characteristic severely influences gearshift performance in automated manual transmissions. In this paper a novel model of the torque transmissibility of dry clutches is proposed. The dependence of the transmissibility characteristic on wear, slip speed and friction pads geometry and the influence of the diaphragm spring, the flat spring and the torsional damper springs is taken into account and pointed out. The sensitivity of a clutch engagement control scheme with respect to the clutch characteristic uncertainties is analyzed.
Comparison between SiC and GaN switching devices in fast-recharging systems for electric vehicles
2023
Recently, the improvement of the semiconductor devices to achieve higher efficiency and higher power density has risen to interest. Si carbide and gallium nitride offer faster switching frequency and lower losses; however, the knowledge of the behaviour of these devices is not mature. In this paper, a system for fast charging of batteries for electric vehicles based on an isolated DC-DC converter equipped with both SiC and GaN devices is presented and an interesting experimental comparison among these two technologies will be given in terms of dynamic performances, electromagnetic compatibility, stability, efficiency, and so on.
