High Resolution Coherent Raman Spectroscopy: Studies of Molecular Structures

1992

One of the main advantages of the non-linear coherent Raman techniques is the high resolution that can be achieved in rovibrational spectroscopy. Typically an instrumental function of the order of several thousandths of a wavenumber is routinely achieved in SRS or CARS experiments. Since the first recording of the stimulated Raman spectrum of 12CH4 in 1978 [1], numerous studies of molecules have been performed [2–8]. We have built a stimulated Raman experiment in Dijon in which particular attention has been paid to the frequency measurement of the Raman lines [9]. We will describe the application of our experiment to a wide variety of molecules over the last few years: linear molecules, sph…

Polaroid-Type Operators

2018

In this chapter we introduce the classes of polaroid-type operators, i.e., those operators T ∈ L(X) for which the isolated points of the spectrum σ(T) are poles of the resolvent, or the isolated points of the approximate point spectrum σap(T) are left poles of the resolvent. We also consider the class of all hereditarily polaroid operators, i.e., those operators T ∈ L(X) for which all the restrictions to closed invariant subspaces are polaroid. The class of polaroid operators, as well as the class of hereditarily polaroid operators, is very large. We shall see that every generalized scalar operator is hereditarily polaroid, and this implies that many classes of operators acting on Hilbert s…

Optical study of gallium and nitrogen polarity layers of GaN grown on sapphire

2003

A confocal Raman spectroscopic study was carried out on either side of an intentionally grown GaN inversion domain boundary between a pair of strips with opposite (Ga- or N-) polarity. It is shown that the Raman spectra on the N-polarity side displays an A1(TO) mode, prohibited by symmetry considerations, meanwhile on Ga-polarity material this peak is absent, indicating a lower density of defects present in this region. The Raman spectra reveal that in the lateral direction, the change in structural quality accross the inversion domain boundary is rather continuous and extends along 4 ± 1 μm. Synchrotron x-ray transmission measurements and modeling of filters investigated for Athena

2020

International audience; Advanced Telescope for High-Energy Astrophysics is a large-class astrophysics space mission selected by the European Space Agency to study the theme "Hot and Energetic Universe." The mission essentially consists of a large effective area x-ray telescope and two detectors: the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) and the Wide Field Imager (WFI). Both instruments require filters to shield from out-of-band radiation while providing high transparency to x-rays. The mission is presently in phase B; thus, to consolidate the preliminary design, investigated filter materials need to be properly characterized by experimental test campaigns. We report results from high-resolution…

Legally protected cultural goods and bankruptcy proceedings

2020

A route to simple nonionic surfactants

2016

AbstractA method for the synthesis of nonionic surfactants – N-alkyl-O-(2-hydroxyethyl) carbamates is proposed by acylation of fatty amines with ethylene carbonate without any solvent or catalyst. The surface tension of the prepared surfactants was measured, toxicity and biodegradability were determined for the surfactant with n-dodecyl as a hydrophobic group and N-monosubstituted amide and hydroxyl groups for their hydrophilic part.

Fluorinated heterocyclic compounds: an assay on the photochemistry of some fluorinated 1-oxa-2-azoles: an expedient route to fluorinated heterocycles

2004

Abstract Photoinduced heterocyclic rearrangements of ON bond-containing azoles have been claimed in the synthesis of target fluorinated heterocyclic compounds. In this context, the photochemical behavior of some fluorinated 1,2,4-oxadiazoles has been investigated. Irradiations of 3-amino-5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles at λ =313 nm in methanol gave open-chain products arising from a reaction of the nucleophilic solvent with either the first formed ring-photolytic species or with a nitrilimine moiety generated from it. Differently, irradiations in methanol with the presence of triethylamine (TEA) followed competing phototransposition pathways leading to the ring-isomers 2-amino-5-perfluo…

A Dynamic Analysis of Tourism Determinants in Sicily

2015

This study provides an initial analysis of the key determinants of tourism in Sicily. In doing so, it responds to the general lack of a scientific approach in the study and management of tourism in Sicily. By mixing a gravity approach and system dynamics methodology, the attractiveness of Sicily is examined, taking into account both structural and promotional aspects that might affect tourism demand. The results strongly suggest that the island's natural and cultural resources, the road infrastructure and the urban environment are important determinants of tourism demand in Sicily. The findings may be useful for local authorities involved in the development of tourism, and represent a star…
