ESCOM as the life work of Irène Deliège: Irène Deliège in conversation with Jukka Louhivuori
2010
ESCOM has established itself as an influential actor in the field of cognitive sciences of music. The journal, Musicae Scientiae, including its special issues, discussions forums, the ESCOM conferences and smaller symposia, have all contributed significantly to the field. Although many people have contributed to ESCOM's activities in important ways, the society is very much the life work of Irène Deliège. She is the founding editor of Musicæ Scientiæ and the founding Permanent Secretary of ESCOM. The aim of publishing the following interview is to ensure that interesting and important details about ESCOM's background will be on record for future use. The conversation took place in Brussels…
Correction to: Ernst Mach’s „Bekehrung“ zum Atomismus/Ernst Mach’s “Conversion” to Atomism – A Dialogue Between Mach and Popper-Lynkeus by Otto Blüh
2019
Otto Bluh was a great admirer of Ernst Mach’s and contributed a number of papers to Machian scholarship. It is believed that he wrote this skit around 1966, perhaps to coincide with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mach’s death and most likely for Bluh’s own amusement, as it was never published. It consists of an imaginary conversation in pseudo-Viennese dialect, between Mach and his friend, Josef Popper-Lynkeus based on the questionable tale of Mach’s conversion to atomism. This paper includes a brief introduction to the skit as well as its transcription and translation into English, published for the first time. It was also dramatized for the first time in occasion of the Ernst …

The Lyapunov dimension formula for the global attractor of the Lorenz system
2015
The exact Lyapunov dimension formula for the Lorenz system has been analytically obtained first due to G.A.Leonov in 2002 under certain restrictions on parameters, permitting classical values. He used the construction technique of special Lyapunov-type functions developed by him in 1991 year. Later it was shown that the consideration of larger class of Lyapunov-type functions permits proving the validity of this formula for all parameters of the system such that all the equilibria of the system are hyperbolically unstable. In the present work it is proved the validity of the formula for Lyapunov dimension for a wider variety of parameters values, which include all parameters satisfying the …
Source-Target Mapping Model of Streaming Data Flow for Machine Translation
2017
Streaming information flow allows identification of linguistic similarities between language pairs in real time as it relies on pattern recognition of grammar rules, semantics and pronunciation especially when analyzing so called international terms, syntax of the language family as well as tenses transitivity between the languages. Overall, it provides a backbone translation knowledge for building automatic translation system that facilitates processing any of various abstract entities which combine to specify underlying phonological, morphological, semantic and syntactic properties of linguistic forms and that act as the targets of linguistic rules and operations in a source language foll…
Translingual text mining for identification of language pair phenomena
2016
Translingual Text Mining (TTM) is an innovative technology of natural language processing for building multilingual parallel corpora, processing machine translation, contextual knowledge acquisition, information extraction, query profiling, language modeling, contextual word sensing, creating feature test sets and for variety of other purposes. The Keynote Lecture will discuss opportunities and challenges of this computational technology. In particular, the focus will be made on identification of language pair phenomena and their applications to building holistic language model which is a novel tool for processing machine translation, supporting professional translations, evaluation of tran…
Can re-regulation of the financial sector strike back public debt?
2015
This paper analyzes the impact of financial sector policy changes on the dynamics of public debt. Using a panel of 89 countries from 1973 to 2005, we find that while the implementation of (large) financial liberalisation policies significantly raises the public debt growth rate, the adoption of financial re-regulation measures leads to a mild reduction of public debt. Looking at the different typologies of financial sector policy changes, we show that stricter banking supervision, privatisations and restrictions to international capital flows contribute to a fast decline of the growth rate of public debt. In contrast, the removal of entry barriers and the elimination of interest rate contro…
Sex roles and the evolution of parental care specialization
2019
Males and females are defined by the relative size of their gametes (anisogamy), but secondary sexual dimorphism in fertilization, parental investment and mating competition is widespread and often remarkably stable over evolutionary timescales. Recent theory has clarified the causal connections between anisogamy and the most prevalent differences between the sexes, but deviations from these patterns remain poorly understood. Here, we study how sex differences in parental investment and mating competition coevolve with parental care specialization. Parental investment often consists of two or more distinct activities (e.g. provisioning and defence) and parents may care more efficiently by s…
