Le società democratiche stanno vivendo oggi una fase di grande trasformazione a causa anche dei grandi progressi dovuti alla tecnologie digitali. Di fronte alle difficoltà legate al fenomeno dell'individualismo bisogna evitare entrambi gli estremi: quello di chi demonizza la tecnica e i fenomeni di modernizzazione e quelli di chi guarda ai nuovi strumenti con un fideismo acritico. Le intuzioni di Tocqueville possano ancora oggi aiutarci ad avere un atteggiamento critico equilibrato tra questi due estremi.
Representation of solutions and large-time behavior for fully nonlocal diffusion equations

Abstract We study the Cauchy problem for a nonlocal heat equation, which is of fractional order both in space and time. We prove four main theorems: (i) a representation formula for classical solutions, (ii) a quantitative decay rate at which the solution tends to the fundamental solution, (iii) optimal L 2 -decay of mild solutions in all dimensions, (iv) L 2 -decay of weak solutions via energy methods. The first result relies on a delicate analysis of the definition of classical solutions. The article takes Zachary Baqué's study of Los Angeles in the films of David Lynch as a starting point to explore David Lynch's Hollywood movies. The author contends that the films offer more than a satirical representation of a corrupt, unhealthy system which threatens dreams and artistic creativity, or a parodic play on Hollywood genre and narrative conventions. A number of the world's large cities are taking on increasing economic importance in the international arenas because they concentrate high-order activities This metropolization process is a result of the changes occurring in the emerging post-industrial economy, i.e. the rise of services and information.
