O-142 COVID19-free endometrium: Undetectable viral RNA in endometrial biopsies from positive symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 women
2021
Abstract Study question Does SARS-CoV-2 infect the endometrial tissue in women with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? Summary answer Symptomatic women with COVID-19 report no presence, in the short term, of viral RNA from SARS-CoV-2 in the endometrium. What is known already The recent emergence of COVID-19, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has not allowed yet to establish putative relations between this disorder and other existing pathologies. It is the case with fertility problems and the reproductive organs, including a possible endometrial disorder caused by the virus. Thus, an important step is to elucidate the viral presence in different hu…
Urology practice during the COVID-19 vaccination campaign
2021
Introduction: The current scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic is significantly different from that of the first, emergency phase. Several countries in the world are experiencing a second, or even a third, wave of contagion, while awaiting the effects of mass vaccination campaigns. The aim of this report was to provide an update of previously released recommendations on prioritization and restructuring of urological activities. Methods: A large group of Italian urologists directly involved in the reorganization of their urological wards during the first and second phase of the pandemic agreed on a set of updated recommendations for current urology practice. Results: The updated recommendations…

The Vibrio choleare haemolysin anion channel is required for cell vacuolation and death
2002
SummarySeveral strains of Vibrio cholerae secrete ahaemolytic toxin of 63kDa, termed V. cholerae cytolysin (VCC). This toxin causes extensive vacuo-lation and death of cells in culture and forms ananion-selective channel in planar lipid bilayers and incells. Here, we identify inhibitors of the VCC anionchannel and show that the formation of the anionchannel is necessary for the development of the vacuoles and for the cell death induced by this toxin. Using markers of cell organelles, we show that vacuoles derive from different intracellular com-partments and we identify the contribution of lateendosomes and of the trans -Golgi network in vacuolebiogenesis.Introduction The Gram-negative bact…
Fibronectin-binding nanoparticles for intracellular targeting addressed by B. burgdorferi BBK32 protein fragments.
2011
Virus-like particles (VLPs) are created by the self-assembly of multiple copies of envelope and/or capsid proteins from many viruses, mimicking the conformation of a native virus. Such noninfectious nanostructures are mainly used as antigen-presenting platforms, especially in vaccine research; however, some of them recently were used as scaffolds in biotechnology to produce targeted nanoparticles for intracellular delivery. This study demonstrates the creation of fusion VLPs using hepatitis B core protein-based system maintaining a fibronectin-binding property from B. burgdorferi BBK32 protein, including the evidence of particles’ transmission to BHK-21 target cells via caveolae/rafts endoc…
