Modification of Nanocrystalline WO3 with a Dicationic Perylene Bisimide: Applications to Molecular Level Solar Water Splitting
2015
[(N,N?-Bis(2-(trimethylammonium)ethylene) perylene 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid bisimide)(PF6)2] (1) was observed to spontaneously adsorb on nanocrystalline WO3 surfaces via aggregation/hydrophobic forces. Under visible irradiation (? > 435 nm), the excited state of 1 underwent oxidative quenching by electron injection (kinj > 108 s-1) to WO3, leaving a strongly positive hole (Eox ? 1.7 V vs SCE), which allows to drive demanding photo-oxidation reactions in photoelectrochemical cells (PECs). The casting of IrO2 nanoparticles (NPs), acting as water oxidation catalysts (WOCs) on the sensitized electrodes, led to a 4-fold enhancement in photoanodic current, consistent with hole transfer from …
Introduzione a culture visibili
2017
Visible cultures, meaning physical and…
Tunable morphologies of ZnO films via the solution precursor plasma spray process for improved photocatalytic degradation performance
2018
Abstract The Solution Precursor Plasma Spray (SPPS) process is a novel, versatile and one-step route for building photocatalytic films. Herein, the influence of the precursor solution composition on the microstructure and on the properties of ZnO films prepared via the SPPS process was studied. Nanostructured ZnO particles (i.e. nanorods (NRs) and nanowires (NWs)) were obtained by using a solution of pure Zn(OAc)2 rather than pure Zn(NO3)2. Upon adding urea to the Zn(NO3)2 solution, NRs structured ZnO films were formed as well. The addition of acetic acid into the Zn(OAc)2 solution led to a damage of the nanostructured morphologies likely due to the inhibition of the zinc-containing cluster…
Spectrophotometric estimation of bicalutamide in tablets
2007
A simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of bicalutamide in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms. Bicalutamide shows maximum absorbance at 272 nm with molar absorptivity of 2.3399×10(4) l/mol/cm. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 1.5-18 μg/ml. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 0.1 and 0.4 μg/ml, respectively. Results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies.
Synthesis, UV/vis, FT-IR and Mössbauer spectroscopic characterization and molecular structure of the Bis[4-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine](tetrakis(4-metox…
2016
International audience; The synthesis, the UV-visible, FT-IR and Mossbauer spectroscopy and the crystal structure characterizations of the bis[4-(2-Aminoethyl)morpholine]tetrakis(4-metoxyphenyl)porphy-rinato)iron(II) complex are described. The title compound crystallizes in the triclinic, space group P-1, with a = 11.1253(4) angstrom, b = 11.2379(4) angstrom, c = 11.5488(4) angstrom, alpha = 72.304(2)degrees, beta = 86.002(2)degrees gamma = 72.066(2)degrees, V = 1308.28(8) angstrom(3), Z = 1. The Mossbauer data are consistent with an iron(II) low-spin (S = 0) porphyin species. The spin-state is confirmed by the value of the average equatorial iron-nitrogen pyrrole distance (Fe-Np = 1.988(2)…

Photocatalytic nano-composite architectural lime mortar for degradation of urban pollutants under solar and visible (interior) light
2017
Abstract Recent advances in nano-technology and nano-additives can give enhanced properties to natural hydraulic lime (NHL), creating a multifunctional material. We have prepared a novel nanocomposite, made of a commercial mortar with 1 wt% and 5 wt% added titania nanoparticles (NPs). These TiO 2 NPs are themselves doped with 1 mol% silver, to give the material enhanced photocatalytic and antimicrobial properties. The Ag-doped TiO 2 NPs were made from a simple, costs effective, aqueous green nanosynthesis process, and the end material only contains 0.01–0.05% Ag. As this mortar is intended to both combat atmospheric pollution, and create more durable/lower maintenance building facades (plas…
Synthesis, Optical and Electrical Properties of Oligo(phenylenevinylene)s Substituted with Electron-Accepting Sulfonyl Groups
2010
Oligo(phenylenevinylene)s (OPV) composed of five rings and electron donating or withdrawing sulfonyl substituents on the central and lateral rings have been investigated. Two strategies were used for the syntheses of the C2-symmetrical OPVs both include PO-activated olefinations as central steps. Six flexible side chains guarantee good solubility in toluene or dichloromethane. In solution and in films stabilised by polystyrene (60%), the chromophores are strongly fluorescent, with emissions in the violet-blue domain from solutions and in the green to orange region from solid films. The redox potentials, determined by cyclic voltammetry, and the optical properties are strongly depending on t…
Complexes of an anionic poly(p-phenylene) polyelectrolyte and dioctadecylammonium bromide at the air–water interface
1999
Abstract By spreading dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide on a subphase containing rigid rod-like anionic poly( p -phenylene) sulfonate, a complex monolayer is formed in situ at the air–water interface. Complexation results in an increase of the area per amphiphile molecule compared to the amphiphile on pure water. The change in structural order upon complexation and subsequent compression of the monolayer can be demonstrated employing UV/Vis spectroscopy: A red-shift of the polymer absorption band upon compression and a subsequent partial reversion of this shift after monolayer collapse can be observed. The peak shift is discussed to be a result of the electronic interaction of the π -syst…
Light transmission of the human lens and its relation with aging
2011
Purpose To determine the visible light transmission of the human crystalline lens of persons of different ages, using both solar and incandescent illumination. Methods The spectral transmission of lens was measured by using the Perkin-Elmer 800 UV/VIS spectrophotometer. With these data we calculated the percentage of visible light transmission for solar illumination, simulated by the CIE D65 illuminant, and for incandescent illumination (A illuminant). Results The total amount of visible light transmitted by nine crystalline lenses is represented as a function of age: with solar illumination and with incandescent illumination and the comparison between both illuminants. In general, the amoun…
