Objective— Plasma phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) is involved in the metabolism of HDL and apolipoprotein B (apoB)-containing lipoproteins. Atherosclerosis susceptibility is decreased in mice with PLTP deficiency that is associated with decreased liver production of apoB-containing lipoproteins and increase in their antioxidant. Characterization of Brassica fruticulosa seeds

The structure and vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienol), fatty acid and phytosterol content and composition of seeds of Brassica fruticulosa Cyr. (Brassicaceae) were characterized. Seed size and elevated content of γ-tocotrienol, and γ- tocopherol and low of α- tocopherol can be useful for distinguishing seeds of B. fruticolosa from those of Sicilian Brassica sect. Brassica. The concentration of the tocotrienol is about one third of the vitamin E content. This profile makes this wild species worth to be recovered as food source and its germplasm preserved in a gene bank.

International audience; Vitamin K-1 (phylloquinone) intestinal absorption is thought to be mediated by a carrier protein that still remains to be identified. Apical transport of vitamin K-1 was examined using Caco-2 TC-7 cell monolayers as a model of human intestinal epithelium and in transfected HEK cells. Phylloquinone uptake was then measured ex vivo using mouse intestinal explants. International audience; Vitamin E is composed of closely related compounds, including tocopherols and tocotrienols. Studies of the last decade provide strong support for a specific role of alpha-tocopherol in cell signalling and the regulation of gene expression. It produces significant effects on inflammation, cell proliferation and apoptosis that are not shared by other vitamin E isomers with similar antioxidant properties. This paper describes the effects of prolonged antioxidant therapy, its stability and association with spectral parameters of the fluorescent probe ABM in blood plasma and indices of albumin auto-fluorescence in Chernobyl clean-up workers from Latvia. Patients were divided into two groups. Group 1 received placebos of identical appearance to antioxidants. Group 2 received antioxidants (vitamin E + selenium + ibuprofen). Individuals were tested three times: before supplementation of antioxidants, after therapy and one year after supplementation interruption. Stability of tocopherols in adapted milk-based infant formulas during storage

Abstract An evaluation is made of the effects of added α -tocopherol ( α -T) or α -tocopherol acetate ( α -TAc) combined with iron lactate or sulfate, storage time (up to 17 months) and storage temperature (22°C and 37°C) on the α -TAc, α -T, γ -tocopherol ( γ -T) and δ -tocopherol ( δ -T) content of infant formulas. Tocopherols were measured by normal phase HPLC and fluorescence detection after direct extraction, which allows the determination of both α -TAc and α -T.
