Nutrition and physical activity in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia: systematic review

Summary This systematic review summarizes the effect of\ud combined exercise and nutrition intervention on muscle mass\ud and muscle function. A total of 37 RCTs were identified.\ud Results indicate that physical exercise has a positive impact\ud on muscle mass and muscle function in subjects aged 65 years\ud and older. Effect of 2 years of endurance and high-impact training on preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women: randomized clinical trial.

The aim of the study was to analyze the effects of endurance and high-impact training oriented toward preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women with calcium and vitamin D supplementation.This study was a randomized clinical trial. Thirty-six postmenopausal women were randomized to the control and experimental groups. Thirty-four women completed the 2-year interventions. The control group training involved walking at an intense pace. The experimental group conducted high-impact training specifically oriented to prevent osteoporosis. Octaplex is a new prothrombin complex concentrate that is indicated for treatment or perioperative prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with deficiency of the prothrombin complex coagulation factors, such as deficiency caused by treatment with vitamin K antagonists or by liver failure, when rapid correction of bleeding is required. The study was conducted to demonstrate both prevention of bleeding and achievement of haemostasis in acute bleeding and to obtain further information about the safety of administration of Octaplex.

Retinoids induce MMP-9 expression through RARalpha during mammary gland remodeling.

Retinoic acid (RA) is a signaling molecule in the morphogenesis of the mammary gland, modulating the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). The aim of this paper was to study the role of RA during weaning, which consists of three events: apoptosis of the secretory cells, degradation of the extracellular matrix, and adipogenesis. CRABP II and CRBP-1 carrier proteins increased significantly during weaning compared with lactating glands but reverted to control values after the litter resuckled.
