Postoperative Komplikationen nach Silikonölinstillation
1997
Ahmed valve, suture-less implantation: A new approach to an easier technique.
2013
Purpose Tissue adhesives have been used in ophthalmology instead of sutures to minimize the operating time. This case series investigated the effectiveness and safety of use of cyanoacrylate in Ahmed valve implantation through pars plana for refractory glaucoma. Patients and methods Seventeen eyes of 17 patients with refractory glaucoma underwent Ahmed valve scleral suture-less implantation through pars plana with a cyanoacrylate suture of the plate. Refractory glaucoma was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) ≥ 21 mm Hg with antiglaucoma eye drops, good adherence to treatment, and no previous glaucoma surgery. IOP control and development of complications were evaluated during the follow-u…
Transconjunctival sutureless 25-Gauge versus 20-Gauge standard vitrectomy: correlation between corneal topography and ultrasound biomicroscopy measur…
2009
Purpose: To determine the correlation between corneal shape changes and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) findings at the sclerotomy sites in conventional 20-gauge (G) pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and 25-G transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (TSV) and to compare the effectiveness of the two surgical methods. Design: Prospective, comparative, observational case series. Methods: Sixty consecutive eyes (60 patients) undergoing primary 3-port PPV. Thirty eyes (30 patients, group 20-G) were treated with 20-G standard PPV and 30 eyes (30 patients, group 25-G) with 25-G TSV. We compared healing of the sclerotomy sites in the two groups. We determined the correlation between corneal shape changes (…
Delayed Suprachoroidal Hemorrhage After Pars Plana Vitrectomy: Five-Year Results of a Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study
2015
Purpose To determine the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage after vitrectomy. Design Retrospective multicenter cohort study. Methods All consecutive patients who underwent primary vitrectomy, from January 2009 to December 2014, at 4 tertiary vitreoretinal centers in Italy were enrolled. Patient demographics and systemic, ophthalmic, operative, and postoperative data from all centers were extracted from the electronic record system using standardized data collection forms. All eyes that developed delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage within 48 hours of the end of the vitrectomy were identified as the delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage group; all other eyes …
Intravitreal pegaptanib sodium for refractory pseudophakic macular oedema.
2008
Evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal pegaptanib sodium (Macugen®) in refractory pseudophakic cystoid macular oedema (CME). Prospective, nonrandomized, interventional case series. Four eyes of four patients with refractory pseudophakic CME to pars plana vitrectomy and intravitreal bevacizumab and triamcinolone, were treated with pegaptanib sodium, with a mean follow up of 4 months. Pre- and postinfection examinations included assessment of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) using the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study chart (ETDRS), fluorescein angiography (FA), and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Visual acuity increased in all patients after intravitreal pegaptanib sodium. OCT…
Phacoemulsification and Vitrectomy with the Erbium: or Neodymium:YAG-Laser
2002
Summary There are an increasing number of applications for Erbium:YAG and Neodymium:YAG lasers in opthalmology. Laser phacoemulsification and Erbium-laser vitrectomy are of major interest. We report the underlying technology and more than 1-year-experience using the PHACOLASE (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany, 10–100 Hz frequency, 5–50 mJ single pulse energy) for phacoemulsification and pars plana vitrectomy and the Lyla-Dodick laser photolysis (A.R.C. Laser, Eckental-Forth, Germany, 1–20 Hz, up to 8 mJ single pulse energy). The Erbium:YAG laser and Neodymium:YAG laser enabled us to extract lenses with up to medium hard nuclei. Moreover, the Erbium laser enabled fast vitrectomy with little…

Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative Corticosteroid Use as an Adjunctive Treatment for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment
2020
The treatment for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is surgery, including pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and scleral buckling (SB). Despite surgical advances, degeneration of the photoreceptors and post-operative complications, such as proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), often occurs as the result of inflammation, preventing complete visual recovery or causing RRD recurrence. There is increasing evidence that in the presence of RRD, the activation of inflammatory processes occurs and the surgery itself induces an inflammatory response. This comprehensive review focuses on the use of different formulations of corticosteroids (CCS), as an adjunctive treatment to surgery, either PPV or S…
Endogene Candida-Endophthalmitis bei Patienten mit schweren Allgemeinerkrankungen
2005
Background: Endogenous Candida endophthalmitis is a rare disease with increasing frequency and poor prognosis. Patients and Methods: The course of endogenous Candida endophthalmitis in 7 eyes of 5 patients (age 2 months to 76 years) was evaluated. Underlying general diseases were diagnosed as colon cancer, diverticulitis, pancreatic insufficiency (with subclavian catheter), ileus and diabetes mellitus. Diagnosis was based on the very typical ocular feature combined with a positive blood or vitreous culture. Intensive antimycotic drug therapy was initiated and pars plana vitrectomy performed as soon as possible. Results: The delay between onset of ocular symptoms and diagnosis amounted to on…
Pars-Plana-Vitrektomie bei diabetischen Traktionsamotiones mit Foramen
2000
PURPOSE: To evaluate results and prognostic factors of pars-plana vitrectomy (ppv) using membrane peeling and C2F6-gas for diabetic traction retinal detachments with a hole. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the healing course of 84 eyes, which were treated in this way consecutively (follow-up 6-32 month). C2F6 was always used in case of a retinal hole at the posterior pole or in the upper part of the eye. The influence of HBA1c, type of diabetes, preoperative visual acuity, preoperative laser-coagulation and macular status over treatment results and rate of complications were studied using multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Preoperatively 56% of the eyes showed premacul…
