Vocational training integrated into inpatient psychosomatic rehabilitation--short and long-term results from a controlled study.

Purpose. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of a vocational training programme on short- and long-term results after psychosomatic rehabilitation. Method. 1,590 inpatients were screened for vocational integration. A high-risk group of 266 patients was randomly assigned to the vocational training programme plus psychosomatic treatment; treatment- as- usual served as a control condition. An occupational training was conducted at local companies, closely integrated into psychosomatic treatment. Impact of socio-economic position on cancer stage at presentation: Findings from a large hospital-based study in Germany

We explored the relationship between socio-economic characteristics and cancer stage at presentation. Patients admitted to a university hospital for diagnosis and treatment of cancer provided data on their education, vocational training, income, employment, job, health insurance and postcode. Tumor stage was classified according to the Union International Contre le Cancer (UICC). To analyze disparities in the likelihood of late-stage (UICC III/IV vs. I/II) diagnoses, logistic regression models adjusting for age and gender were used. The qualitative meta-study reported here investigated Finnish vocational teachers' professional agency amid an educational reform. Differences were found in teachers' agency regarding their work, their involvement with the reform, and their professional identity. The manifestations of agency could remain stable or could change over time, and agency drew on various resources (e.g. teacher identity and the organizational management culture). The theoretical conclusions encompass professional agency as multidimensional, largely individually varied, temporally imbued, and both socially and individually resourced. Este artículo analiza los efectos de la tenencia y uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIc) en la adquisición de competencias (evaluadas por ordenador en la prueba de PIsa de 2012). los principales resultados son los siguientes. En primer lugar, se constata que las variables TIc inciden en mayor medida en la adquisición de matemáticas que en el resto de competencias evaluadas (comprensión lectora y ciencias). En segundo lugar, resulta relevante la variable TIc utilizada, ya que no todas inciden del mismo modo. Finalmente, existen algunos resultados dispares por género.
The role of peer groups in adolescents' educational trajectories

The present study investigated whether the members of adolescents' peer groups show similar educational trajectories from comprehensive school to either senior secondary or vocational education, and to what extent their educational expectations, academic achievement, family structure, and parents' SES predict these trajectories. Five hundred thirty adolescents filled in a questionnaire focusing on their educational expectations, academic achievement and family background variables before the transition to post-comprehensive education. This chapter draws upon some of the main results of two Finnish nationwide case studies on how common efforts of education providers and organizations’ personnel support VET (vocational education and training) students along their individual learning paths. The first study concerns best practices to prevent early leaving, and the second was a Finnish national pilot programme to assist uncertain students who have somewhat weak prerequisites to enter vocational education. France has a multi-track higher education system which includes four key components: Grandes Ecoles, short vocational training tracks, specialised higher education institutions (in social work, healthcare and the arts), and universities.
