Abstract Cytoprotection effects of Allium sativum L garlic extract from a local garlic ecotype from Ferrara (Italy) on hepatocarcinoma cells, HepG2 cells, is presented in this study. This garlic type is known as Voghiera garlic and has been characterized as PDO (Protected designation of Origin) product. What Conclusions does Rapid Image Classification by Eye Movements Provide for Machine Vision?

Human ability to rapidly classify images of natural objects has been a matter of study for more than a decade. Recently eye movements have been exploited as a behavioural response, which has lead to alternative hypotheses of natural image processing. In this research, twelve volunteers made a movement towards a briefly displayed digital image if it was an animal, and a movement away otherwise. In both cases, the average response time was more than 400 milliseconds.

Introduction Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada (VKH) prognosis depends on early recognition and treatment; chronic disease may be developed when either delayed or inadequate treatment is performed, whereas other cases despite correct treatment are refractory to different drugs and also become chronic. The recent discovery of three horse shaped fibulae – a pair with a cavalryman from Ecrille in the Jura and a fibula from the La Chambre sector in Savoie as well as a bird shaped fibula from Charpey in the Drome, all dating from the second half of the 5th century or around 500 AD, provide valuable references in the context of the Burgundian settlement in the Centre-East and the South-East of Gaul. The map is still incomplete notably for the area to the south of Lyon, precisely where La Chambre and Charpey are located. Relating to the Ecrille discovery, it provides new information in relation to this defended site underlining its importance.

Sedimentation coefficients of S of polystyrene covering a broad range of molecular weights M, are measured in toluene and 2-butanone in the semidilute regime. The results are compared with literature data using a plot of S · NA · η/(1 − νρ) = M · η/f versus concentration c, allowing experiments in different solvents of different density ρ and viscosity η to be compared (ν: partial specific volume of polymer; f: friction coefficient; NA: Avogadro number).
