Analysis of VoIP over HSDPA Performance with Discontinuous Reception Cycles

The aim of this paper is to evaluate how Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycles and related timers take effect to Voice over IP (VoIP) performance when High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks are in question. DRX cycles limit the scheduling freedom of users and increase battery saving opportunities in the User Equipment (UE) by allowing it to turn its receiver circuitry off for some periods of time. Prior work has concentrated mainly on optimizing the usage of radio resources when small bit rate delay critical services, like VoIP, are considered. This paper deals with the theory of syllable in Aristotl's Poetics. As known, the main difficult of this text are the strange examples of syllables 'syllable is gr without a as well as with a, as in gra'. Abstract Background The ways in which students with deafness process syntactic and semantic cues while reading sentences are unclear. While some studies have supported the preference for semantic cues, others have not. Aim To examine differences in the processing of syntactic versus semantic cues during sentence reading among students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). Cognition and interpersonal communication: The effect of voice quality on information processing and person perception

Abstract Against the backdrop of cognitive load theory (CLT) it was tested if irregular voice increases processing demands on working memory (WM). An experiment was designed to expose N = 54 participants to expository text delivered with a modal and a creaky human voice. Working memory capacity was measured by a secondary task on the visual modality. Listening to a creaky voice quality consumes more cognitive capacity as indicated by the significant decrease in secondary task performance; also, retention of information was found to be impaired. Results are explained within the framework of CLT and implications for professional communication are discussed.

Personal digital assistants (PDAs) are increasingly used by many professional and private users. They replace and combine common calendars, directories, to-do-lists and much more. Supplemented by useful additional software they can assist the clinician in his daily routine work. This concerns typical medical information as well as administrative work but gets more importance with regard to the planned introduction of diagnosis related groups in Germany however. Exact coding of medical performance is essential for this future invoice system. How PDAs can be used convenient in this respect will be shown with examples from our department.

Employee ‘voice’ and working environment in post-communist New Member States: an empirical analysis of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

This article examines employee ‘voice’ in workplace health and safety in three Baltic New Member States by means of a cross-national survey. The data point to unresolved problems of voice in the context of rather poor working environments. These present opportunities for collective renewal by trade unions, but paradoxically are more likely to be addressed by employers in the context of significant labour shortages created by a post-European Union accession labour ‘exit’.
