Power training in young athletes: Is it all in the genes?

2018

Introduction. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of plyometric and isometric training protocol on power in 46 team sports (basketball: n = 23; volleyball: n = 23) players, also in relation to genetic background (i.e., ACE and PPARA genes polymorphisms). Methods. The following tests were administered: squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ), drop jump (dJ), sprint, handgrip, and agility test. Genetic analysis was based on saliva samples. Results. The training protocol proved to be effective in improving jump performance in basketball players and volleyball players, respectively: 25-meter sprint test (p = 0.006; p = 0.008); agility test (p = 0.000; p = 0.000); SJ test (p = 0…

Effects of combined and classic training on different isometric rate of force development parameters of leg extensors in female volleyball players: D…

2012

Background: The aim of this study is to verify the effects of the combined and classic training of different isometric rates of force development (RFD) parameters of legs. Materials and Methods: Three groups of female athletes was tested: Experimental group (N = 12), classically trained group (N = 11), and control group (N = 20) of athletes. The isometric "standing leg extension" and "Rise on Toes" tests were conducted to evaluate the maximal force, time necessary time to reach it and the RFD analyzed at 100 ms, 180 ms, 250 ms from the onset, and 50-100% of its maximal result. Results: The maximal RFD of legs and calves are dominant explosive parameters. Special training enhanced the RFD of…

Evaluation of knee joint proprioception and balance of young female volleyball players: a pilot study

2015

[Purpose] The main purpose of our study was the evaluation of the effects of long-term volleyball practice on knee joint proprioception and balance of young female athletes. [Subjects and Methods] An observational case-control study was performed. The study enrolled 19 female volleyball players in the experimental group and 19 sedentary counterparts as controls. A Biodex balance system and dynamometer were used for the evaluations. The paired t-test was used to determine the significance of differences between the performance of athletes and controls. [Results] The knee proprioception analysis showed a significant difference at 60° joint position in active and passive tests. A similar trend…

Repetition without Repetition or Differential Learning of Multiple Techniques in Volleyball?

2021

A variety of approaches have been proposed for teaching several volleyball techniques to beginners, ranging from general ball familiarization to model-oriented repetition to highly variable learning. This study compared the effects of acquiring three volleyball techniques in parallel with three approaches. Female secondary school students (N = 42

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE AND FLEXIBILITY IN THE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS OF THE SUPERFICIAL BACK LINE OF PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS: A PILOT STUDY

2019

Background: Massage is a common treatment in physiotherapy, often used as a prophylaxis or during recovery following a musculoskeletal contusion. One form of therapeutic massage is deep tissue massage (DTM), which has become more popular in recent years as a way of performing targeted work with the myofascial system. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of deep tissue massage on superficial back line flexibility (hip flexion and knee extension range of motion - ROM). Material and methods: Elite volleyball players (n=15), age: 22.8 ± 4.41 years; mass: 82.67 ± 6.99 kg; height: 1.96 ± 0.08 m) were recruited for this study. Deep tissue massage of the myofascia…
