How the formation of interfacial charge causes hysteresis in perovskite solar cells

2018

In this study, we discuss the underlying mechanism of the current-voltage hysteresis in a hybrid lead-halide perovskite solar cell. We have developed a method based on Kelvin probe force microscopy that enables mapping charge redistribution in an operating device upon a voltage- or light pulse with sub-millisecond resolution. We observed the formation of a localized interfacial charge at the anode interface, which screened most of the electric field in the cell. The formation of this charge happened within 10 ms after applying a forward voltage to the device. After switching off the forward voltage, however, these interfacial charges were stable for over 500 ms and created a reverse electri…

High voltage stabilisation for an on-line isotope separator

1981

Abstract Stabilisation for a high voltage generator up to 60 kV has been developed. The voltage is stable within ±0.1 V. This allows the very accurate acceleration of charged particles.

SIMULATION OF THERMAL EFFECTS IN OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICES USING COUPLED ENERGY-TRANSPORT AND CIRCUIT MODELS

2008

A coupled model with optoelectronic semiconductor devices in electric circuits is proposed. The circuit is modeled by differential-algebraic equations derived from modified nodal analysis. The transport of charge carriers in the semiconductor devices (laser diode and photo diode) is described by the energy-transport equations for the electron density and temperature, the drift-diffusion equations for the hole density, and the Poisson equation for the electric potential. The generation of photons in the laser diode is modeled by spontaneous and stimulated recombination terms appearing in the transport equations. The devices are coupled to the circuit by the semiconductor current entering the…

Alkoxide-intercalated CoFe-layered double hydroxides as precursors of colloidal nanosheet suspensions: structural, magnetic and electrochemical prope…

2014

Alkoxide-intercalated CoFe-layered double hydroxides (CoFe–LDHs) were synthesized via the non-aqueous methanolic route. According to powder X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy, they exhibit a nanosized plate-like morphology with a basal space of 9.21 A. The hydrolysis of the material in water leads to colloidal suspensions of nanosheets with lateral dimensions of about 20 nm and thicknesses of ca. 4 nm as demonstrated by atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering. Atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy combined with electron energy-loss spectroscopy confirm the high crystalline quality of the crystals and the proper Co/Fe stoichio…

Recombination in Perovskite Solar Cells

2017

Trap-assisted recombination, despite being lower as compared with traditional inorganic solar cells, is still the dominant recombination mechanism in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and limits their efficiency. We investigate the attributes of the primary trap assisted recombination channels (grain boundaries and interfaces) and their correlation to defect ions in PSCs. We achieve this by using a validated device model to fit the simulations to the experimental data of efficient vacuum-deposited p-i-n and n-i-p CH3NH3PbI3 solar cells, including the light intensity dependence of the open circuit voltage and fill factor. We find that, despite the presence of traps at interfaces and grain bounda…

Modeling and parameter identification of crystalline silicon photovoltaic devices

2011

This paper tests the standard single-exponential model of the electrical characteristics of crystalline-Si photovoltaic devices, focusing on the (apparent) shunt current. Measured characteristics of illuminated polycrystalline-Si photovoltaic modules are modeled, and the apparent shunt current is analyzed. It is shown that an Ohmic-like behavior only takes place at voltages well below the maximum-power point. At higher voltages, the apparent shunt current quickly drops to negligible values. Modeling a crystalline-Si PV device with a fixed shunt resistance may therefore lead to underestimation of the maximum power exceeding 10% at certain irradiance levels.

Determination of electron and hole energy levels in mesoporous nanocrystalline TiO2 solid-state dye solar cell

2006

A study of a hybrid heterojunction solar cell based on nanocrystalline mesoporous TiO2 and the hole conductor spiro-OMeTAD (2,2′7,7′-tetrakis(N,N′-di-p-methoxyphenyl-amine)-9,9′-spiro-bifluorene) has been realized. Impedance and cyclic voltammetry techniques were used to measure the interfacial properties of the hybrid heterojunction and establish the energy levels of the solid-state electrolyte. It was observed that the energy levels of the organic hole transport material are changed when it forms a film deposited onto indium-doped tin oxide (ITO). Moreover, the HOMO level of the mono oxidized spiro-OMeTAD is well coupled with the HOMO level of the dye N719 (Ru(4,4′-dicarboxy-2,2′-bipyridy…

Electrochemical characterization of natural gold samples using the voltammetry of immobilized particles

2017

The application of the voltammetry of immobilized particles for characterizing natural gold samples from different geological settings and dating vein deposits is described. This is based on recording characteristic electrochemical oxidation signatures of gold and silver following the attachment of metal sub-microsamples to graphite electrodes. Keywords: Electrochemistry, Gold, Mineralogy, Placer deposits, Vein deposits, Nuggets

Electrochemical discrimination of manufacturing types of pottery from Magna Mater Temple and Fora of Nerva and Caesar (Rome, Italy)

2018

Abstract The voltammetry of immobilized microparticles (VIMP) methodology is applied to a series of pottery samples from the Roman sites of Nerva's Forum (second half of 9th-early 11th A.D), Caesar's Forum (second half of 9th-early 11th A.D) and Magna Mater Temple (III century). The VIMP sampling applied to voltammetric and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements was applied by the first time to acquire archaeometric information on archaeological pottery. VIMP measurements using pressed sample pellets on gold electrodes in contact with air-saturated 0.10 M H2SO4 have permitted to detect voltammetric signals for the reduction/oxidation of Fe and Mn minerals as well as catal…

Moisture ingress in photovoltaic modules: A review

2021

Abstract Moisture ingress in photovoltaic (PV) modules is the core of most degradation mechanisms that lead to PV module power degradation. Moisture in EVA encapsulant can lead to metal grids corrosion, delamination and discolouration of encapsulants, potential induced degradation, optical and adhesion losses. The present work is a review of literature on the causes, effects, detection, and mitigation techniques of moisture ingress in PV modules. Literature highlights on determining the diffusivity, solubility, and permeability of polymeric components of PV modules via water vapour transmission rate tests, gravimetric, and immersion methods, have been presented. Electroluminescence, photolu…
