Babij Jar: lo sterminio taciuto e l’arte dell’eufemismo

2020

Structure and function of the vacuolar Ccc1/VIT1 family of iron transporters and its regulation in fungi

2020

Iron is an essential micronutrient for most living beings since it participates as a redox active cofactor in many biological processes including cellular respiration, lipid biosynthesis, DNA replication and repair, and ribosome biogenesis and recycling. However, when present in excess, iron can participate in Fenton reactions and generate reactive oxygen species that damage cells at the level of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Organisms have developed different molecular strategies to protect themselves against the harmful effects of high concentrations of iron. In the case of fungi and plants, detoxification mainly occurs by importing cytosolic iron into the vacuole through the Ccc1/V…

Impaired Binding to Junctophilin-2 and Nanostructural Alteration in CPVT Mutation

2021

Rationale: Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a rare disease, manifested by syncope or sudden death in children or young adults under stress conditions. Mutations in the Ca 2+ release channel/RyR2 (type 2 ryanodine receptor) gene account for about 60% of the identified mutations. Recently, we found and described a mutation in RyR2 N-terminal domain, RyR2 R420Q . Objective: To determine the arrhythmogenic mechanisms of this mutation. Methods and Results: Ventricular tachycardias under stress conditions were observed in both patients with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and knock-in mice. During action potential recording (by patch-clamp in …

The paradoxical management of service skills

2015

This paper focuses on service skills which are mobilized by front office agents when they are involved with customers. These skills are most of the time tacit. We consider that the way in which firms recognize these skills and contribute to their development is an important management issue. It is all the more important that a lot of jobs combine poor levels of qualification and highly situated skills.

En kvalitativ studie om pårørendes erfaringer knyttet til etterlattesamtale med sykepleier fra en kommunal institusjon

2014

Masteroppgave i helsefag ME 518 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: There is a deficiency of bereavement support in Norwegian municipalities. The deficiency is shown in the existing literature of the relatives point of view, both national and internationally. The bereavement support is important forthe bereaved and the palliative care. The follow-up could have a positive effect onthe bereaved. The aim of the study was to gain knowledge about the family membersexperience with follow- up, conducted by a community nurse from a municipalinstitution.Method: The study used a qualitative, descriptive method. Qualitative interviews wereconducted with 7 relatives to earlier cancer patients from t…

Incidence, risk factors, and thrombotic load of pulmonary embolism in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection

2021

Summary Objective To determine the incidence, characteristics, and risk factors of pulmonary embolism (PE) among patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Patients and Methods We performed a prospective observational study of a randomly selected cohort of consecutive patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection between March 8, 2020 through April 25, 2020. All eligible patients underwent a computed tomography pulmonary angiography independently of their PE clinical suspicion and were pre-screened for a baseline elevated D-dimer level. Results 119 patients were randomly selected from the 372 admitted to one tertiary hospital in Valencia (Spain) for COVID-19 infection during the period of study. Se…

The LepR-mediated leptin transport across brain barriers controls food reward

2018

Objective Leptin is a key hormone in the control of appetite and body weight. Predominantly produced by white adipose tissue, it acts on the brain to inhibit homeostatic feeding and food reward. Leptin has free access to circumventricular organs, such as the median eminence, but entry into other brain centers is restricted by the blood–brain and blood–CSF barriers. So far, it is unknown for which of its central effects leptin has to penetrate brain barriers. In addition, the mechanisms mediating the transport across barriers are unclear although high expression in brain barriers suggests an important role of the leptin receptor (LepR). Methods We selectively deleted LepR in brain endothelia…
