Analysis of singular bilinear systems using Walsh functions
1991
The use of Walsh functions to analyse singular bilinear systems is investigated. It is shown that the nonlinear implicit differential system equation may be converted to a set of linear algebraic Lyapunov equations to be solved iteratively for the coefficients of the semistate x(t) in terms of the Walsh basis functions. Solution of the iterative algorithm is uniformly convergent to the exact solution of the algebraic generalised Lyapunov equation of the singular bilinear system. The present method is slightly more complicated than a similar one arising from the analysis of linear singular systems. In fact, it is a hybrid between the analyses of usual linear singular and bilinear regular sys…
Observational study of chronic myeloid leukemia Italian patients who discontinued tyrosine kinase inhibitors in clinical practice.
2018
It is judged safe to discontinue treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in experimental trials on treatment-free remission (TFR). We collected a total of 293 Italian patients with chronic phase CML who discontinued TKI in deep molecular response. Seventy-two percent of patients were on treatment with imatinib, and 28% with second generation TKI at the time of discontinuation. Median duration of treatment with the last TKI was 77 months [Interquartile Range (IQR) 54;111], median duration of deep molecular response was 46 months (IQR 31;74). Duration of treatment with TKI and duration of deep molecular response were shorter with second generation TK…
Tracking Five Millennia of Horse Management with Extensive Ancient Genome Time Series
2019
Summary Horse domestication revolutionized warfare and accelerated travel, trade, and the geographic expansion of languages. Here, we present the largest DNA time series for a non-human organism to date, including genome-scale data from 149 ancient animals and 129 ancient genomes (≥1-fold coverage), 87 of which are new. This extensive dataset allows us to assess the modern legacy of past equestrian civilizations. We find that two extinct horse lineages existed during early domestication, one at the far western (Iberia) and the other at the far eastern range (Siberia) of Eurasia. None of these contributed significantly to modern diversity. We show that the influence of Persian-related horse …
Bayesian model averaging and weighted-average least squares: Equivariance, stability, and numerical issues
2011
In this article, we describe the estimation of linear regression models with uncertainty about the choice of the explanatory variables. We introduce the Stata commands bma and wals, which implement, respectively, the exact Bayesian model-averaging estimator and the weighted-average least-squares estimator developed by Magnus, Powell, and Prüfer (2010, Journal of Econometrics 154: 139–153). Unlike standard pretest estimators that are based on some preliminary diagnostic test, these model-averaging estimators provide a coherent way of making inference on the regression parameters of interest by taking into account the uncertainty due to both the estimation and the model selection steps. Spec…
Spatial coherence properties of a multiple aperture system an analysis based on the Walsh functions
1997
Analysis of the spatial coherence of the light transmitted by an optical device composed of a periodical array of identical apertures is developed by employing an approach based on the properties of the binary Walsh functions. The successive interactions between each aperture, and the mutual intensity characterizing the coherence state of the transmitted light, can be adequately explained through the behaviour of the Walsh-Hadamard spectrum associated with the intensity distribution resulting from the far-field propagated light at the output of the aperture array.
Multidimensional dyadic Kurzweil–Henstock- and Perron-type integrals in the theory of Haar and Walsh series
2015
Abstract The problem of recovering the coefficients of rectangular convergent multiple Haar and Walsh series from their sums, by generalized Fourier formulas, is reduced to the one of recovering a function (the primitive) from its derivative with respect to the appropriate derivation basis. Multidimensional dyadic Kurzweil–Henstock- and Perron-type integrals are compared and it is shown that a Perron-type integral, defined by major and minor functions having a special continuity property, solves the coefficients problem for series which are convergent everywhere outside some uniqueness sets.
Sustainability, Territorial Resources and Social Capital
2017
In Italy, in the last two decades, new methods of intervention in planning and land policies have been used, which focused more and more on territorial government, governance, development, cohesion and environmental sustainability. One of the main factors that has contributed to the dissatisfaction of the residents is the lack of quality in the towns, which has been more and more characterized by urban decay and by lack of services and gathering places. Giving back environmental, economic and social quality to degraded areas or recovering abandoned public spaces responds definitely to the concept of sustainable city limiting urban sprawl and reducing environmental impacts inherent in the bu…
Der Schurke ist kein Schurke mehr. Form und Rollenkonzeption in Robert Walsers "Schneewittchen"
2015
