A value sensitive ABM of the refugee crisis in The Netherlands

We develop an agent based model to characterize the wellbeing of newcomers (i.e. asylum seeking refugees) in the context of asylum logistics using Schwartz’s theory of values. The model produces recommendations for decision-makers with respect to avoiding catastrophic outcomes and maximizing best case outcomes. We conduct analysis to show that while a relatively simple set of conditions is necessary to avoid catastrophic outcomes, these conditions are insufficient to maximize the best case outcomes. Agent-based modelling of values: the case of value sensitive design for refugee logistics

We have used value sensitive design as a method to develop an agent-based model of values in humanitarian logistics for refugees. Schwartz's theory of universal values is implemented in the model in such a way that agents can make value trade-offs, which are operationalized into a measure of refugee wellbeing and a measure of public opinion about how the refugee logistics is being handled. By trying out different ‘value-scenarios’, stakeholders who are responsible for, or involved in refugee logistics can have insights into the effects of various value choices. Introduction: Heat Shock Protein 60 (Hsp60) is a member of the chaperoning system that assists protein folding inside mitochondria and plays other roles beyond these organelles. It is implicated in the carcinogenic processes in various types of cancer. In human salivary glands, Hsp60 has not yet been measured or mapped in detail and its role in gland development and functioning is virtually unknown. Consequently, its potential as biomarker for gland diseases, including malignancies cannot be assessed. Spectral approach to D-bar problems

We present the first numerical approach to D-bar problems having spectral convergence for real analytic, rapidly decreasing potentials. The proposed method starts from a formulation of the problem in terms of an integral equation that is numerically solved with Fourier techniques. The singular integrand is regularized analytically. The resulting integral equation is approximated via a discrete system that is solved with Krylov methods. As an example, the D-bar problem for the Davey-Stewartson II equations is considered. The result is used to test direct numerical solutions of the PDE.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Deze bijdrage presenteert de resultaten van een prospectie- en waarderingsonderzoek te Lier-Duwijck II (prov. Antwerpen), ter hoogte van een locatie die gekenmerkt wordt door de aanwezigheid van (mesolithische) lithische artefacten en verkoolde ecofacten in zandlemige afzettingen. Het artikel bespreekt de resultaten van een veldverkenning, manuele boringen, een proefputtenonderzoek en een daaropvolgende kleinschalige opgraving van een cluster geassocieerd met een windvalstructuur.

This paper contains an overview of the equipment currently available in the Norwegian Motion Laboratory, a description of the IT networking infrastructure in the laboratory, a GitHub link to open source code developed, description of the PyQt-based graphical user interface, presentation of robot forward and inverse kinematics, presentation of equations of motion for the suspended load motion and a description of the full system kinematics. The article presents the issue of trust in law as one of the fundamental values of a rule-of-law state. The analysis of the court rulings conducted in the first part of the article indicates the principle of a democratic rule-of-law state as a basis for distinguishing substantive and formal components of trust in law. Further considerations of the article focus on showing the change of law, in particular its transition from repressive law to responsive law, and the possible effects of this change on the paradigm of trust established in a democratic ruleof-law state.
