RT-PCR combined with immunoblotting showed the expression of group-I (mGlu1 and 5) and group-II (mGlu2 and 3) metabotropic glutamate receptors in whole mouse thymus, isolated thymocytes and TC-1S thymic stromal cell line. Impaired immune response to Candida albicans in aged mice

The prevalence of opportunistic fungal infections has increased dramatically among the aged population in recent years. This work investigated the effect of ageing on murine defences against Candida albicans. Aged C57BL/6 mice that were experimentally infected intravenously had a significantly impaired survival and a higher tissue fungal burden compared with young mice. In vitro production of tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α by macrophages from aged mice in response to yeast cells and hyphae of C. albicans was significantly lower than production by macrophages from young mice. Climate change impact on the West African monsoon from June to October.

Sixteen CMIP5 models are used toanalyse how climate changes over the West African Monsoon region between a “future period”, defined from 2031 to 2070under the rcp4.5 emission scenario, and the “current period”, defined from 1960 to 1999 under the historical emissionscenario. The results show an increase of the September to October rainfall amounts. Circulation anomalies include of anincreases of sea-level pressure over the Mediterranean Sea and Europe that allow a strengthening of the moisture flux fromEuro-Mediterranean regions into the Sahel. These changes are stronger in autumn.
Evaluation of the Impact of Multipath Data Dispersion for Anonymous TCP Connections

Despite recent research efforts, wireless ad hoc networking technology remains especially prone to security attacks. In this work our contribution focuses on determining the optimal trade-off between traffic dispersion and TCP performance to reduce the chances of successful eavesdropping, while maintaining acceptable levels of throughput. For our experiments we propose a multipath-enhanced version of DSR, and we compare Tahoe, Reno and Sack TCP variants. Adaptive Low Priority Packet Marking for Better TCP Performance

This paper proposes a packet marking scheme for TCP traffic. Unlike previous literature work, in our scheme the majority of TCP packets are transmitted as high priority. The role of a low priority packet appears that of a probe, whose goal is to early discover network congestion conditions. Low priority packets are marked according to an adaptive marking algorithm. Numerical results show that our scheme provides improved throughput/delay performance.
TCP Performance in Mobile Ad hoc Networks

International audience; In this paper, we present a survey of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) protocol for better performance in the MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network). After a short presentation of the main features of TCP, we give the most important problems from which TCP suffer in MANET. We present after that some approaches proposed in the literature in order to improve its performance. Our paper contains also a performance evaluation of TCP NewReno and TCP Vegas transport protocols under AODV and DSR routing protocols. The simulations are conducted under varying conditions of number of TCP connections, number of nodes and mobility.

The Western Palaearctic species of the genus Caenophanes Foerster are reviewed. A new species from the Canary Islands, C. lapalmaensis sp. nov., is described. The name C. rugosifrons (Picard) is restored from synonymy (stat. resurr.). The redescriptions of C. incompletus (Ratzeburg) and C. rugosifrons are given. A key to the Western Palaearctic species of Caenophanes is suggested.
Purification and characterization of the ?-β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase from dromedary liver mitochondria

Abstract d -β-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) (EC 1.1.1.30), a membrane enzyme, has been purified to homogeneity from dromedary ( Camelus dromedarius ) liver mitochondria. Our new purification method consisted of the solubilization of mitochondrial membranes by Triton X 100 and purification of BDH by two steps: DEAE-Sephacel and Phenyl-Sepharose. The molecular mass of the enzyme subunit size was 67 kDa. The purified enzyme is recognized by anti rat liver mitochondrial BDH antibodies. Furthermore, BDH activity was absolutely dependent upon phospholipids. Abstract MYCN amplification occurs in approximately 20% of human neuroblastomas and is associated with early tumor progression and poor outcome, despite intensive multimodal treatment. However, MYCN overexpression also sensitizes neuroblastoma cells to apoptosis. Thus, uncovering the molecular mechanisms linking MYCN to apoptosis might contribute to designing more efficient therapies for MYCN-amplified tumors. Here we show that MYCN-dependent sensitization to apoptosis requires activation of p53 and its phosphorylation at serine 46.
