For many years dextran sulfate adsorption (DSA) treatment of separated plasma has been an established technology for low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-elimination. Recently a system for the treatment of whole blood based on DSA was introduced into clinical practice. Draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas corrugata, a phytopathogenic bacterium with potential industrial applications

Pseudomonas corrugata was first described as the causal agent of a tomato disease called 'pith necrosis' yet it is considered as a biological resource in various fields such as biocontrol of plant diseases and production of industrially promising microbial biopolymers (mcl-PHA). Here we report the first draft genome sequence of this species. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

Problems Associated with the Use of Chemical Class Controls in Absence of Information on the Underlying Mechanism

It is simply not possible to test all chemicals in adequately performed whole animal carcinogenicity tests. Short-term tests are, therefore, frequently used as a substitute. None of these short-term tests give results which correspond in all cases to the results obtained in whole animal carcinogenicity tests. Certain short-term tests have a notoriously poor predictibility for whole animal carcinogenicity for certain classes of chemicals. Therefore, if a chemical, whose carcinogenicity is unknown, is tested in a short-term test, frequently related compounds of known carcinogenicity are also tested simultaneously as chemical class controls.

Previous research showed that the COVID-19 pandemic has a significant impact on the wellbeing and lifestyle of populations worldwide, including eating and physical activity (PA) patterns. The present study aims to examine the mediating effect of orthorexia on the relationship between PA and fear of COVID-19. This paper explores teacher elicitation practices following a perceived absence of a response to an initial inquiry. Specifically, we focus on whole class post-task discussions where a teacher pursues responses in post-first position following students’ non-uptake, and thus makes her orientation toward the expectation of a response publicly available. Neurosurgical Odyssey: Case of Anaplastic Meningiomatosis.

According to the World Health Organization grading, meningiomas are classified as grade I (benign), grade II (atypical), and grade III (anaplastic). Most of them (81%) are benign, 15% are atypical, and 4% are anaplastic. Metastasis is a rare event in meningiomas, occurring in <1% of cases. In most types of tumors, distant metastasis is an incontrovertible indication of malignancy. Complete genome sequence of the hydrogenotrophic Archaeon Methanobacterium sp Mb1 isolated from a production-scale biogas plant

Methanobacterium sp. Mb1, a hydrogenotrophic methanogenic Archaeon, was isolated from a rural biogas plant producing methane-rich biogas from maize silage and cattle manure in Germany. Here we report the complete genome sequence of the novel methanogenic isolate Methanobacterium sp. Mb1 harboring a 2,029,766 bp circular chromosome featuring a GC content of 39.74%. The genome encodes two rRNA operons, 41 tRNA genes and 2021 coding sequences and represents the smallest genome currently known within the genus Methanobacterium. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V.
