On Prefix Normal Words

We present a new class of binary words: the prefix normal words. They are defined by the property that for any given length $k$, no factor of length $k$ has more $a$'s than the prefix of the same length. These words arise in the context of indexing for jumbled pattern matching (a.k.a. permutation matching or Parikh vector matching), where the aim is to decide whether a string has a factor with a given multiplicity of characters, i.e., with a given Parikh vector. Lasīšana ir viena no būtiskākajām prasmēm, ko skolēni apgūst sākumskolā. Daudziem skolēniem bieži sastopamie vārdi angļu valodā sagādā grūtības, jo tie nepakļaujas zināmajām lasīšanas stratēģijām. Turklāt bieži sastopamie vārdi parādās lielos daudzumos lasīšanas tekstos. Diploma darba autore ir novērojusi, ka ir bērni no 5 līdz 6 gadu vecumam, kuriem grūtības sagādā bieži sastopamus vārdus atpazīšana, tādēļ nav augsts lasīšanas ātrums un izpratne par tekstu. Kā pētījumu metodi autore ir izvēlējusies gadījuma pētījumu, lai izpētītu, kā multisensorā pieeja var palīdzēt 5 līdz 6 gadu veciem skolēniem atpazīt bieži sastopamos vārdus. Dynamics of hydrofracturing and permeability evolution in layered reservoirs

International audience; A coupled hydro-mechanical model is presented to model fluid driven fracturing in layered porous rocks. In the model the solid elastic continuum is described by a discrete element approach coupled with a fluid continuum grid that is used to solve Darcy based pressure diffusion. The model assumes poro-elasto-plastic effects and yields real time dynamic aspects of the fracturing and effective stress evolution under the influence of excess fluid pressure gradients. We show that the formation and propagation of hydrofractures are sensitive to mechanical and tectonic conditions of the system. Some Investigations on Similarity Measures Based on Absent Words

In this paper we investigate similarity measures based on minimal absent words, introduced by Chairungsee and Crochemore in [1]. They make use of a length-weighted index on a sample set corresponding to the symmetric difference M(x)ΔM(y) of the minimal absent words M(x) and M(y) of two sequences x and y, respectively. We first propose a variant of this measure by choosing as a sample set a proper subset (x, y) of M(x)ΔM(y), which appears to be more appropriate for distinguishing x and y. From the algebraic point of view, we prove that (x, y) is the base of the ideal generated by M(x)ΔM(y). The state of preservation of the bug Sehirus carpathiensis J.A. Lis, Vršanský & Schlögl, sp. n. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae) from the Lakšárska Nová Ves Formation at Cerová (Slovakia) supports extremely rapid sinking and burial in upper bathyal Early Miocene sediments. The specimen originated from land at most a few kilometers away, but transport via a river can be excluded as the head and wings are still attached. Its most likely source based on fossil flora and the habitat of several living representatives of the genus is a riparian habitat in an adjacent area of land.
