Association Between Low Education and Higher Global Cardiovascular Risk

This study was designed to evaluate the impact of educational status on global cardiovascular risk in a southern Italian urban population. The study population consisted of 488 consecutive outpatients aged 18 years and older. Lipoprotein phenotype and insulin resistance in familial combined hyperlipidemia.

The study objective was to investigate the relationship of insulin resistance (IR) with the lipoprotein phenotype in familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCH). Thirty-seven FCH men diagnosed by clinical and biochemical criteria and classified as lipoprotein phenotype IIa (n = 9), IIb (n = 17), or IV (n = 11) were compared with a healthy control group of 30 men of similar age, body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR), and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Are abdominal obesity and body mass index independent predictors of hemorheological parameters?

There is an association between obesity and rheological blood behavior [2, 4–7]. In this sense we have read with interest the recently published article by Brun et al. [1] in this journal. Serum leptin is associated with serum uric acid concentrations in humans.

This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the relationship between leptin and the cluster of abnormalities often referred to as the metabolic syndrome. The serum leptin concentration, body mass index (BMI), percent body fat, total fat mass (FM), waist and hip circumference, waist to hip ratio (WHR), prevalence of hypertension, and triglyceride (TG), lipoprotein, and uric acid concentration were determined in 86 type 2 diabetic (n = 59) and healthy (n = 27) subjects.
