Battle of Kosovo field in 1389 – legendary battle of Balkan Middle Ages

The main goal of this paper is the examine the circumstances of the Kosovo battle in 1389. Fundamental difficulty in describing this battle results from the fact that there was no separate chronicler. Moreover, the description of the battle of Kosovo field is based only on fragmentary information transmitted by Serbian, Bosnian, Turkish or Byzantine chroniclers. The author of this article proposed a thesis that battle of Kosovo field contributed to development of both Ottoman and Serbian art of warfare. The Battle of Civitate in 1053 was the clash of two worlds. On the one hand, the people of Italy, who defended the old status quo, led by Pope Leo IX. These descendants of the Lombards and the ancient Romans, stand in front of the descendants of the Danes and Norwegians, who earlier created state later called Normandy. The Normans were the new factor, which disrupted the fragile balance of forces in the Mezzogiorno, between the world of Latin, the Greeks, and Islam.
