The second half of the 17th century history of the Great Duchy of Lithuania was dominated by the hegemony of two families: the Pac family and the Sapieha family. The latter managed to seize control over all spheres of public life and made decisions regarding the attitude of Lithuania with regard to the king and the Republic of Poland. The period of domination of the Sapieha family dates from 1685 to the early 1690s., when the plans of Jan III Sobieski, who attempted to build a political force that could withstand and counterbalance the influence of the Sapieha family, started to come to fruition. Our analysis focuses on the symbolism of Marilyn Monroe in the context of the Polish cinema of the end of communism and the desires and fantasies it arouses. Drawing on the Polish representation of Hollywood's star in the Polish film Train to Hollywood, directed by Radoslaw Piwowarski in 1987, we propose here a reflection on the femininity, but also the theatrical and subversive dimension of Eros.

The article presents opinions and assessments o f the Polish authorities in exile (the president and the govemment) on the situation o f Poland in the first half of the 70s. The emigration authorities were absolutely against the inhuman actions during the December 1970 workers’ rebellion. The “Polish” London, lacking in information from the country, wrote about hundreds o f people killed and wounded. They were also pointing to the tragic economic situation o f Poland and the economic exploitation by the USSR. Graph-based minimal path tracking in the skeleton of the retinal vascular network

This paper presents a semi-automatic framework for minimal path tracking in the skeleton of the retinal vascular network. The method is based on the graph structure of the vessel network. The vascular network is represented based on the skeleton of the available segmented vessels and using an undirected graph. Significant points on the skeleton are considered nodes of the graph, while the edge of the graph is represented by the vessel segment linking two neighboring nodes. The graph is represented then in the form of a connectivity matrix, using a novel method for defining vertex connectivity. In a section of the De officiis, Book i, Cicero deals with the justice of warfare. He asserts that the enemies defeated who were not cruel and savage should be spared, so the maiores utterly destroyed Carthage and Numantia (i 35). In i 38 Cicero refers to the wars undertaken by Romans, distinguishing the ones waged de imperio (as the Punic wars) from the others fighted uter esset (as the wars against Celtiberi and Cimbri): the first must be fought less cruelly, but Cicero justifies the destruction of Carthage with the sentence Poeni foedifragi, crudelis Hannibal, reliqui iustiores, probably containing a quotation from Ennius’s Annales.
