The issue of lethal autonomous weapons systems (laws) goes to the heart of the debate on new warfare technologies: States, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and civil society at large have long been discussing the acceptability of ‘autonomous killing’. The present contribution zooms in on the position held by the Holy See, exploring its content and the main arguments which support the call of a ban on such technology. Both diplomatic statements and doctrinal teachings will be tackled. Why has it not yet been possible to bring the nuclear weapons regime to an end and why are prospects about a nuclear weapon free future so bleak? In this thesis, I analyze both the achievements and failures concerning the global governance of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. In the first chapter, I outline key terms and concepts as well as the historical backgrounds, which are essential for understanding the proliferation of nuclear weapons and the global governance of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. Is cancer risk of radiation workers larger than expected?

Occupational exposures to ionising radiation mainly occur at low-dose rates and may accumulate effective doses of up to several hundred milligray. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the evidence of cancer risks from such low-dose-rate, moderate-dose (LDRMD) exposures. Our literature search for primary epidemiological studies on cancer incidence and mortality risks from LDRMD exposures included publications from 2002 to 2007, and an update of the UK National Registry for Radiation Workers study. The review of bronze finds from the excavations carried out in the contrada Gaggera sanctuaries from 1888 until 1925 as well as in the sixties and seventies of the last century, and the reading of old excavation notebooks have allowed the identification of a huge number of unpublished weapons. This evidence has also been considered in relation to what has been published by Ettore Gabrici in the 1927 edition of the Malophoros sanctuary. The study better clarifies the finding context of these materials (from the sanctuary of Demeter Malophoros or from the sacred area of Zeus Meilichios) and provides an overview of the different types of weapons. A rescue excavation in 2003 resulted in the discovery of a building on piles, constructed between two sections of ditch, of which the one on the north side has an entrance. The chronological data of the building and two ditches match and demonstrate the existence of cults during La Tène C2. Evidence of the cults is given by a small quantity of deliberately mutilated weapons, as has been found in other La Tène sanctuaries. Dating the creation of the enclosure is problematicaln but it probably derives from La Tène C1. On the other hand, the 'Spear Horizon' offers an excellent opportunity to approach hominin spatial behavior, thanks to the richness of the archeological assemblage, its exceptional preservation, and the vast expanse of the excavated surface. Mini-drones swarms and their potential in conflict situations

Drones are currently used for a wide range of operations, such as border surveillance, general surveillance, reconnaissance, transport, aerial photography, traffic control, earth observation, communications, broadcasting, and armed attacks. This paper examines the swarming and associated abilities to overwhelm a combatant as well as bring extra functionality by means of extra sensors spread throughout the swarm. The strategy of stealth is becoming increasingly less effective. Combatants can not only sense them, but can also successfully destroy them (although this cannot be said for nano-drones). For mini-drones, objectives can be enhanced by the strategy of overwhelming. peerReviewed
