Comparison of woods-saxon and double-folding potentials forα-particle scattering from54Fe at 24.5 MeV

Inelastic-scattering data are presented forα-particles of 24.5 MeV from54Fe over the range 15° to 175° in the centre-of-mass system. The real part of the optical potential is calculated microscopically using the M3Y effective interaction of Bertschet al. and the DDM3Y density-dependent interaction. Elastic scattering has been analysed by using as real part of the optical potential M3Y, DDM3Y and Woods-Saxon forms (WS), taking in all three cases as imaginary part a WS potential. To fit the data the double-folding potential needs to be normalized by a factor of ⋍1.6 for the M3Y interaction and of ⋍1.13 for the DDM3Y interaction. The state of the art technologies for the preparation of well defined ultrathin films in the submicron range are the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique and self-assembly (SA) methods based on chemisorption [l]. Whereas the LBtechnique requires sophisticated apparatus and is generally limited to small film areas [2], the SA-methods are relatively simple [3,4], hut have not been employed for the preparation of films thicker than 8 layers ( 20nm) [4], probably due to the loss of chemical functionality. Our approach avoids these limits and extends the SA-concept by emploing salt formation as the driving force for the construction of multilayer supramolecular assemblies.
Precipitation chromatography. III. Optimization of the experimental conditions and determination of the polydispersity of fractions

The influence of the solvent–nonsolvent gradient and the temperature gradient on the efficiency of the precipitation chromatography is investigated with radically and anionically prepared polystyrene samples. Only a combination of both gradients gives optimal effectiveness of the column. The separating power of the column was determined by using mixtures of well defined samples. From the elution curves of the mixtures the nonuniformity Ufr of fractions can be estimated. For fractions of anionically prepared polystyrenes Ufr is on the average 0.001; this value is of the same order of magnitude as the statistical error. How ill-defined constituents produce well-defined nanoparticles: effect of polymer dispersity on the uniformity of copolymeric micelles

We investigate the effect of polymer length dispersity on the properties of self-assembled micelles in solution by self-consistent field calculations. Polydispersity stabilizes micelles by raising the free energy barriers of micelle formation and dissolution. Most importantly, it significantly reduces the size fluctuations of micelles: Block copolymers of moderate polydispersity form more uniform particles than their monodisperse counterparts. We attribute this to the fact that the packing of the solvophobic monomers in the core can be optimized if the constituent polymers have different length.
Strategy for good dispersion of well-defined tetrapods in semiconducting polymer matrices.

The morphology or dispersion control in inorganic/organic hybrid systems is studied, which consist of monodisperse CdSe tetrapods (TPs) with grafted semiconducting block copolymers with excess polymers of the same type. Tetrapod arm-length and amount of polymer loading are varied in order to find the ideal morphology for hybrid solar cells. Additionally, polymers without anchor groups are mixed with the TPs to study the effect of such anchor groups on the hybrid morphology. A numerical model is developed and Monte Carlo simulations to study the basis of compatibility or dispersibility of TPs in polymer matrices are performed. Formation, phase composition, and transformations of Langmuir-Blodgett multi- and monolayers containing Fe

Mono- and multilayers of ferric stearate were formed by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Thermodesorption of the hydrocarbon chains results in well defined thin oxidic films. Their reduction to Fe2+ and α-Fe was followed by conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy. Resonance lines can be observed even if the Fe coverage is less than one monolayer.

Libraries of peptides and proteins can be categorized according to the function of their origin in gene- and synthetic-based libraries. An approach developed for the modeling of polymer solutions is extended to polymer blends. It accounts explicitly for the fact that the segments of a given macromolecule cannot spread out over the entire volume of the system (chain connectivity) and that the space a polymer molecule occupies may change after contact formation between the components of a mixture (conformational response ζ). Most injection molding simulation packages use the no-flow temperature (NFT) as a means of determining whether the polymer flows or is solid. The NFT is not well defined, and a standard method for measuring it does not exist. A sensitivity analysis of the filling stage has been carried out with two different packages [VISI Flow (Vero Software Limited, Gloucestershire, UK) and Moldflow (Autodesk, Inc., San Rafael, CA)] to estimate the influence of the NFT on the main processing parameters.
